Tires and Battery and Popcorn, oh my

Recommended Posts

When I had the CTS in for the Transmission control module issue the Dealer pointed out that one of my tires was worn. The tires had been rotated along the way but I guess I left this one too long on the rear before rotating to the front for even wear. Anyway, so this week I went online and scheduled an appointment for Sat 8:30 am at the local Discount Tire.

Up early, check Caddyinfo, and head out at 8:05 am or so. The CTS however won't start. Click click click. Rang the tire place to let them know I'd be delayed. Pulled up the Mountaineer to jump start it, but my cables won't reach that far. hmmm. Pulled the battery out and got it ready to take for a replacement. At this point it occurs to me that perhaps the battery is a warranty item. Researched online a bit to see if Cadillac considers the battery a warranty item or not, since my CTS is still under warranty. Yes, the battery is covered.

Put the battery back in, hooked it up. Reparked the Mountaineer dangerously closer to the CTS, just enough to get the cables to reach, and jump started the CTS. Stowed the cables, stowed the Mountaineer, and headed to the Cadillac dealer. Yup, battery covered, will take 1.5 hours to change.

Stepped around to the front of the dealership and studied the used Cadillacs and then the new Cadillacs they have on the lot. They currently have a beautiful 2007 XLR in red with a black interior. It looks terrific.

In the new cars the local dealer has tons of Cadillacs of course, including two STS-V's. Three different Salemen offered to assist me, which I think is good service. I enjoyed an extended chat about the cars, car sales, and customers with one of the Salesmen.

Wandered back to the Customer area where I passed on the free coffee, cookies, or water but snagged a box of popcorn and bought a soda. Olympic soccer was on the TV, and the Customer waiting area is very nice all in all. Stacks of Luxury Home magazine, which appears to be a houses for sale mag. The car was ready soon after, washed and vacuumed with a new battery installed.

Headed over to the tire place where they were understanding about my showing up 2 hours late. Got the new tires installed and out the door in 45 min or so even though the place was full of customers coming/going/waiting. Back to back, the Cadillac waiting area is MUCH nicer than the Tire place waiting area. I complained on pickup that the tires had some residue on them and asked to ensure that would wipe off. Apparently the residue was from some soap? solution they use to assist with mounting the tires. After I arrived home I rinsed off the residue, and applied some Wet Tire. Didn't have time to let it sit and soak for 15 min.

I'm going to try to let the Tire place rotate the tires every 6k miles this time and see if they last any longer when you follow directions. I am fairly hard on tires, but if these go the 50K that they are rated for that would last me through the rest of the time I plan to drive the CTS.

do you know if the newer STS's have the DI 3.6? seems to me the ads for newer CTS and STS say with and without the DI motor? is it an option on some levels of cars?

The DI 3.6L is the 'base' engine in the current STS. The optional engine is the 320hp RWD Northstar system.

The new battery was the complete fix; no issues so far after several days of enjoying driving.

Lots of windows down days with the weather changing in Texas. Driving around with my favorite sounds on XM and smiling as I go when it's not raining. It does not rain a lot here, since we live in a prairie, but when it does rain it tends to pour down in buckets, and the streets flood a bit. Since I happen to have new tires and new wipers lately, so I'm good for bad weather.

I think my next CTS project will be to try again to get my wood steering wheel installed. Last time I got stymied on how the air bag disable was to be done, but I think this time pull the backseat fuse for the airbag then wait 30 min the pull the bag and the wheel.

Gosh, Bruce, I'm all disappointed. I thought you were going to say you bought the XLR instead of a battery.

Bruce,

Glad the new battery got you all fixed up.

Be careful with the airbag.

Yes, that's why my wood steering wheel is still on the shelf here.

They were ready to sell it to me, but I have to stack up some funds first. I am hoping to get a handful of cash then decide which model for my next Cadillac -- a 08/09 CTS 1SB with sunroof, or an 06/07 XLR for example.
