The Eldo went down

Driving home from work, I'm thinking to myself how glad I was about rebuilding the tranny when all of a sudden I feel a sudden bump(for lack of a better word) and after a few seconds realize the motor has quit running. I'm on a major two lane highway about 45 miles from home. I slide off on to the shoulder and try and restart. Not happening. I call Mobile assistance and get all set to have them come when they say the first five miles are free, then $3 a mile. I think I can get a trailer and have my son come and get me so I said screw you. The kid made it there about 2 hours later and we came back to Roscoe. I'm thinking all kinds of bad motor stuff and then I think(hope) maybe it is just a fuel pump. I call my friend who does some projects for me but he says he isn't that familiar with N* motors. He says a GM dealer mechanic opened up his own place just a couple miles from me and gave me his #. Got ahold of him and told him the situation and he said sure, and told us where to leave it. He had it for 2 days. The first day I went back after work and he said he was sorry, that he had been very busy, but he did know that there was fuel pressure and that there was no spark. Said he would have an answer tomorrow fo sure. I'm thinking how far should I go with this car now that I have spent a wad on the tranny rebuild. Called at noon yesterday and says that it had been quite a mystery, but that the culprit was a hairline crack in a fuse. Said he was having no luck tracking the no spark issue down when he happened to touch the fuse box and the test light flickered. Started checking more into the fuse box and found that one fuse had a hairline crack. I guess it wouldn't show up in testing but damaged enough to cause no engine spark. Stopped by afterwork and he showed the fuse to me and said he had never seen anything like it before. Said he was just lucky to have bumped the fusebox and made the test light flicker. What a relief! Told him to keep the Eldo and see if he can figure out my fan speed- blower trouble. I guess once in a while I get to be the windshield and not the bug.

Glad to here is was a simple fix Kent.
I went back to see how my new mechanic was doing on the airflow problem and he said after doing all the diagnostics and checking and re-checking, his conclusion was that the blower motor that I have just recently installed(from RockAuto) was bad. He said he could get a OEM blower with a heat sheild for just a little more than I can get one from GMPartsDirect. Since he found the fuse problem, I said OK go for it.(Done Monday) I picked up the bad fuse and will try and take a picture of it and then figure out how to post it. It is the ignition fuse. I think I am in the middle of a love/hate relationship with this Eldo.

Love/Hate

I know what you mean, it gets to a point where as the car ages, the frequency of repairs increases. I have a bunch of repairs I need to do on mine right now.

The bottom line is, that when I have it on the highway, its amazing, last night I had it in very heavy rain, and I felt confident. This car is made for swooping down the highway effortlessly.. UNTIL, something like happened to you.. Buy your mechanic a case of beer, that was a GOOD catch
