I have always felt the 1998-2004 Deville / Seville engine mount design was flawed. Sort of like the Ford Taurus V6 style.

No torque axis engine mount, no dogbone style mounts.

Anyway, the 2000-2003 Eldos still used dogbones. Found one brand new Eldorado only bracket on eBay for $20 shipped. The good news is this bracket is fairly cheap..maybe $50 from the dealer. Part # 3540159.

I think I can move the AC and the fuse block over about a inch. Still need to find a dogbone and radiator mount.

I may simply cut a bolt flush with the bracket, and pre install the dogbone. As long as the bracket does not rub on the AC, I should be ok. Looks like it will barely fit with minimal mods.

This is interesting, I just ordered a new mount today. I had thought about making a "catch" to keep the mount from being over extended, but this may be an easier and better solution.

My '94 SLS had two dogbones, one on either end of the left head. I have the dogbone mount that bolts to the front of the left head off of a '94. I wonder if it is the same as the one you bought?

Surely GM/Caddy didn't eliminate the dogbones without making some other accommodations for torque reaction in these vehicles did they?

Get a list of P/N's and take some pictures!

They did it a little differently in 2008, and it may be a better choice. The "dogbone" is on the right side of the engine, and as I recall on my 1999 STS, an area rather open for the drive belts. The arrangement transmits the torque IN COMPRESSION, in other words, from the engine to the frame, in a downward motion, as acceleration is trying to push the engine back away from the rad mount.

Actually, from the 1998 - 2003 Seville, that appears to be exactly what happened, with the resulting engine mount failures and increased torque steer. I think we, on this board, were somewhat instrumental in bringing back the dogbone type mount, wel at least that's what I think.

I know the '08 DTS has very limited torque steer, and a less "jumpy" engine (which I learned to drive correctly in a short time, in my '99 STS) So the dogbone is VERY effective.

Johnny G is correct. No dogbones.

Mid 90's Ford Taurus V6 have a similar setup. First engine mount was free from Ford. After that, you were on your own. Like a Taurus..the powertrain setup simply does not feel 'right.'

I would perfer to use the 2006 DTS dog bone like Johnny G's. The 2001 body has the mounting points for the body side of the mount. Also known as 'hard points' , they dont change.

Problem there is: The engine block has changed. I would be surprised if any mounting points would be the same for the engine bracket 2001 vs. 2006. Certainly would be a faster fix.

I guess I need to go look at cylinder heads.

After some service manual searching tonight, I have a problem with the current bracket...

The 2001 Deville uses one of the holes to mount the upper alternater bolt. The 2001 Eldorado uses the bracket for the bolt. It appears the '01 Eldo uses a different alternator then the '01 Deville.

Very strange for GM.

As for todays inspection. Dont think I could use Johnny G style as that is where my AC lines are.

Closer inspection of the Eldo bracket and my set up...the '01 Deville and '01 Eldo use different alternators.

Both the Eldo and the Deville use the same belt. AC 3k245.

Here's the best I could do with a pic of the head, things are pretty tight in there.

The top bolt is easy to see, it goes in just under the Power steering pump reservoir, just below the valve cover. Dont be confused by the bolt in the front, it just holds a bracket for the steel part of the P/S return line. The bolt you cannot see is down low on the front of the block, directly in front of what appears to be a grey plastic plug in the middle of the front block, first is an unthreaded boss, then another boss very near the front edge of the block itself. The bolt goes straight in, just like the one on top.

Logan, if you can make the rest of that bracket work, I'd just remove that portion of the mount and not use the alternator mounting hole. After all, you're not going to remove the engine mount that is currently in place, so you won't be compromising anything.
