Hello,

I bought a 2000 Deville today for 4,300 in Bradley,Il with 90k miles on it. I have a few questions. hehe The seats will not recline back but the divers side sounds like the motor is trying to do something and will barely move. I have never had a seat problem in all the Cadillacs that I have had. Also I cant seem to find the following codes on the dtc listings b0429 and b0249... lol real close. I dont know If I could own these cars without the great help I have always got from this wonderful website..

Please Help,

Michael

This was the Autotrader.com link if it still works.

Hey Mike, good luck with the new car! Did you ever fix the P0741 code on your SLS?, if I am not mistaken, you had that code.

AHH !

B0249 - Heater/Defrost/AC Door Range Error

Basicly what happens is air will only come out of the defroster

I have a buddy with an 03 that does this and it did do it when I was on my way home, but that was it.

B0429 - Temperature Control #3 Rear Circuit Range/Performance

These were history codes

U1016 - Loss of Class 2 Communication with VCM

U1016 - Loss of Communications with PCM

U1064 - Loss of Communications with DIM

Mike,

B0429 is a very common DTC. If the rear (auxiliary) actuator is slightly out of synch from the commanded position it will set that code. I had mine replaced only because it was under warranty. If you are not having a problem with the rear seat temperature, ignore it.

P0742 - TCC System Stuck On

If the TCC is stuck on, the engine will die every time you stop. It's like trying to stop a manual trans without stepping on the clutch.

Yep, I sure know what it's like to have it stuck on. I had a 90 Buick one time with it stuck on. It had 190,000 miles and I had bought it for $200. The only way I could get it home was rev her up and drop it into gear and burn out, then it would work. Until the next stop sign or light of course. Then I realized that the switch was on the outside and I could have just unplugged it to get home.

Yes, it will do a hard shift sometimes when stopping (p0742).... Im starting to feel like Im a fool for being so cheap. There was no current codes when I had test drove it... I could have went to columbus and got an 03 with 81k miles for 5,900 with no problems.. :( I have put brand new tires on and a left front wheel hub and it still sounds like a 4x4. The guy that checked it out says the tire rod ends are good.. I have never had a front end problem with one of these cars.. :(

Would a power flush help with this p 0742 code ? What can I do ?

A transmission flush? Never ever do a tranny flush.

WARNING: I'm a total car newbie, don't be surprised if I ask a stupid question! Just trying to learn.

Cheers!

Does the sound get louder in a tight turn? You may have a bad CV joint.

Take Care,

For that kind of change, I would be calling a few junk yar---I mean auto recyclers :P

I had good luck with www.marshallsautoparts.com on used Caddy parts. 800-333-2104

They were very reasonable on their parts for my 1994 SLS. $24.95 for a left corner tail light and $24.95 for a trunk pull down assembly.

It may be worth a try.

Good Luck,

Britt
