jndnaps
My trunk started to leak in my 96 DeVille. I bought a new trunk seal from GM part #3546352 and it came cut. So, when I install it, there will be a seam on the bottom at the latch. Now I've changed a few in Sevilles and they came in a full circle and no seam at all. I think that kinda sucks to replace the seal and have a seam and a possible place to have a leak.. Has anyone else changed one with a seam in it? If so, do I have to use a sealant at the seam area? I just think that's the stupidest thing ever..
KHE
I can't say I've seen a trunk seal without a seam. The seam is installed at the rear center. Any water will drain out onto the bumper fascia. Start the installation with the seam first and work your way around. Have you verified the seal is in fact leaking? Climb into the trunk with a flashlight and close the deck lid while someone sprays water all around the trunk and you should be able to identify the source of the leak. jndnaps
Yes it's leaking through the seal. It's pretty squished on one side and very loose. I checked right after a rain and I saw right where it came in. I've replaced like 6 Seville seals in my time and every one of them were a solid circle and fit perfect.. In fact, The 02 Seville I'm trying to sell has a solid seal too. No seam at all. All seals came from GM.. this is actually my first with a seam.. Oh well, Guess I'll just install it and put some sealant around the seam anyway.. Just wondered if anyone else on here that has changed a seal used a sealant at the seam? Or let it ride and had no problems?
KHE
I just checked my cars and all three (a Fleetwood and two Sevilles) have a seam in the trunk seal - right at the center, rear portion of the trunk. jndnaps
Wow, And all the Seville seals I replaced were a solid complete circle. So if you took the seals off your cars, They would lay out in a straight line? Here is a pic from my Seville. You can see where the seam was and factory sealed together. I had to loop it around the trunk lid to install it. Kinda like lassoing a bull, LOL, but a trunk lid instead.. I spoke to my friend at GM parts and he said sometimes they come in a complete circle, Sometimes they don't..

Your description of looping it around the deck lid triggered my memory - I replaced the seal on my '93 Fleetwood a few years ago and recall that it had a seam (which is visible) but it was connected with a connector piece. I had to loop it around the trunk lid. I've never touched the seals on the Sevilles though. jndnaps
well I got it on and we had a bunch of rain and had no leaks. But where the two ends meet, They cut it a little crooked. I did use a sealant at the seam so hopefully that'll work..
