Coolant Crossover

Recommended Posts

I took my car in last week to the caddy dealer for a coolant issue, tranny and oil leak. Well they fixed the tranny and oil leak but I told them to hold off on the crossover at the advice of the members on this board saying I can fix it myself or I can find a cheaper mechanic. Well the time is hear to fix the leak due to the fact coolant is really leaking out now! Do you think there pressure test on the coolant system made it worst?! It was not leaking like this before! Do you think its possible the mechanics forgot to tighten something up or possibly are damaging my system on purpose so I have to come back immediatly to get it repaired!? My main question is does anyone have a P/N for the coolant crosover? Cant find it anywhere. Is there any seals on the crossover and maybe the seals are just bad?

There are seals on the crossover casting. I believe there are four silicone/plastic seals. The coolant crossover is a PITA to replace while in the car but it can be done. Unplug the mail harness by the trans and move it out of the way to gain room.

QUOTE>> "Do you think there pressure test on the coolant system made it worst?!" Not likely, pressure testing is a standard diagnostic technique, the pressure used not higher than what the rating is on your cap. IF, it DID, make the leak worse, it was bound to get worse at the worst possible time anyway.

How do you know that in fact, that this is NOT something else besides your crossover seals? You are focused on your crossover, why, can you see where it is leaking from? You need to find out where its leaking from, the crossover tends to leak UNDER PRESSURE. There are a LOT of places your engine can leak.

Damaging your system on purpose?, that is a different issue that we can not answer here, but if you went to a good reputible mechanic, I doubt it. It is in fact possible that they overlooked tightening a clamp, or something sprung a leak.

YOU ARE NOT REPLACING THE CROSSOVER, you are replacing 4 crossover seals that are VERY VERY cheap (probably less than $30.

This is a VERY VERY hard job to do, I don't recommend anyone to do it unless you are aware of the fact as to how hard this job is. This job is ALL labor, when I did this job, I was SHOCKED at how hard it was. Unless you are mechanically inclined, have a good set of tools, have the FSM, have lots of patience, understand that you will need to remove the PRND21 module off of the transmission, throttle body, main harness, etc, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS JOB. Getting the main harness out of the way is a BIACH, it is connected to everything, here is a list of what the main harness is connected to, oil pressure switch, oil level switch, crank sensors, grounds, 3 cooling fan relays, ABS, on and on and on, Ill post a picture later, the harness is a PIA..

Here is my thread on the crossover:

If you cannot see the leaks clearly, it may be the the short silicone heater hoses.

They are located in a hard to see area under the throttle body. They are usually green in color.

Not all that hard to get at, you will need a long screwdriver, and a shorter one to get all four screw clamps tight.

Use a flash light to locate them, then with a little patients you can tighten them.
