sts_driver
We have been getting alot of rain here lately and the other morning i was on my way to work, car was cold been outside in the rain all night and it started acting strange, first I was coming to a stop sign and i lost the power brakes and power steering, than when I came up to the next light the car stalled but started back up just fine. When I lost the steering and brakes the battery light came on and off, it did it again when I was pulling into work it just stalled, than started fine I got into a parking space and left it it rained all day at work and started doing the same thing so I left it running for 15 min. Once it was heated up and all the water was evaporated from the heat it stopped hasn't done it since. Im guessing I have a big problem on my hands here, anyone have this problem or no where I can start looking.?

The fact that you are losing your power steering and having the battery light illuminate momentarily tells me that you may be experiencing a slipping serpentine belt when it gets wet. The resulting low voltage really has an adverse effect on these computer controlled cars. I would check your serpentine belt for glazing and check the tensioner to see if it is in good condition. I have had tensioners fail to where they were not applying much tension which allowed the belt to glaze and slip. This also could have been caused from driving through deep puddles. As you mentioned, after it warmed up it acted normal. I would highly recommend that you check out the serpentine belt and the tensioner. sts_driver
How old are your ignition wires? I am not sure how old they are I have only had the car for about two months now. That would be my guess to I just wish I knew a way to check them before I buy them.

sts_driver
How do I check the tensioner, I have the belt but have not put it on yet I have been gone for the last two weeks and never drove the car, Before I left right after I posted last I went out with a water bottle and sprayed the belt it stopped moving all together would you guys say this would be from a bad belt or tensioner. I went into the Cadillac dealership and told them about it stopping causing the alt to fail when it rains, they weren't much help more or less told me id have to pay about 70 dollars to have a mechanic look at it. When I sprayed it the belt would move slowly causing the battery light to come on, it would than stop and move slow and finally start up at normal speed again once all the water was off it. I will probably put the belt on today but I would like to check the tensioner so that I don't ruin it and have to buy another one.

Put a 1/2" drive breaker bar in the 1/2" square hole in the back side of it and use the bar a lever to move it and see what kind of tension it has. You might be able to save it by putting some oil on the fulcrum and exercising it. If not replace it. Slipping when wet is a dead give away.
