faris_jason
Ok I just got my car out the shop for my tranny and a oil leak. I told them about the coolant message and they told me my cap was bad and my crossover is leaking which they visual showed me while my tranny was out. I replaced the cap but I have to save some money for the crossover replacement. My question is why does the message keep coming on even when the coolant is at the correct level? The car does not overheat at all. It looks like the dealership may have added more coolant than I usually keep. Can too much coolant give me that message? Can anyone show me a picture of where my coolant level should actually be?
BodybyFisher
It appears that your coolant level switch is part of your surge tank. Check the electrical connector at the bottom of the tank, maybe they left it disconnected by accident. If it is connected you will need to replace the tank. Just for curiosity, if you order the part ask if the coolant level switch is available separately. It appears that your switch is part of the tank, but I have seen other years where the switch is replaceable. If you want to try an experiment you can remove your tank and flush it out with a high pressure hose, the switch could be clogged up, maybe you can avoid replacing the tank, if the switch is integral Here is a print Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
faris_jason
So the sensor is at the bottom of the tank? Where should I fill the resevoir too? The manuals are vague. If there is too much coolant will that give me the light also?

BodybyFisher
Overfilling it will not cause a light. This is from Page 6-26 of your owners manual The vehicle must be on a level surface. When your engine is cold, the coolant level should be at the full cold mark, below the base of the fill neck. Use a flashlight as necessary to see into the tank. Here is another view of the surge tank. faris_jason
OkI have always added fluid up to the line on the right of the surge tank. The dealer has topped it about 3 inches above that line. Could that be causing my message?
PAUL T
Check the coolant low switch connection and clean it up. You will have to remove the battery in order to get to it. The message should be on only when the tank is low. My switch was part of the tank. I would say it was not connected back up when the Tranny/engine was out. You might add the sealing tablets to the upper or lower hose and that might stop or slow the crossover from leaking. Correction: I just saw that you have a 2000 Deville that has the Battery under the back seat, so the battery does not have to come out.
faris_jason
There is no hot or cold marks. Do I fill it just under the caps base or the line at tv base of the unit? I don't want to over service it.

Ranger
Fill it to about the half way point. Just where the tank goes from translucent to opaque. Overfilling it will not set any codes or messages.
