greenhornet
Hi All, For the last 2-months i've been noticing my anti-freeze is disappearing in the coolant tank. If i use my A/C i need to add 1/4 gallon every 4-days. If i don't use the A/C daily, i need to add 1/4 gallon every week. I checked for leaks, at the tank, radiator, hoses, and heater core. I do not see any leaks or smell anti-freeze. One thing i have been noticing though, When i start the car in the AM or evening, after it has been sitting at least 8-hours, it starts up rough depending on the outside temperature. If it's 70 and below it's starts rough for about 8 seconds. 75 and above it's rough for about 3 to 5 seconds. It alway's starts quick, no extended cranking at all. it just runs rough in the beginning like there's might too much gas in the intake. No smoke coming from the exhaust either. I hope it's not a HeadGasket problem 1994 Seville STS 144,000 miles
Ranger
Unfortunately, your symptoms ARE that of a head gasket. Any overheating? Have the coolant tested for the presence of exhaust gases to rule it out or confirm it. If it weren't for the rough starts, I'd lean towards a leak that you can't see and is evaporating before it drips.
greenhornet
Hey Ranger, thanks for replying. My Caddy does not over heat. I live in South Carolina where it is always HOT. My Temps are between 208 and 215 degrees never higher.

You could order the NAPA combusion gases test kit on line. greenhornet
Well guys, I think my Head Gasket has gone bad on me. Filled up the coolant tank this morning before i left for work. This evening used the A/C because here in South Carolina it is about 100-degrees. Temp went up to 244-degrees and kept climbing. Turned off the A/C temp would not go under 236-degrees after it cooled opened the cap, and the tank was just about empty, there was no antifreeze spilling from the overflow tube, nor did i smell any through the vents. It took almost half a gallon to fill it back up. I just moved here last November, and i don't know any good mechanics. My STS is a 94 with 150,000 miles on it, don't feel like soaking up to $2500 for the repair. Might have to let her go.
