Cadillac ''A Century of Style''

The Saratoga Automobile Museum

Celebrates the General Motors Centennial,

With a new exhibit:

Cadillac: A Century of Style

The Saratoga Automobile Museum will celebrate the General Motors Centennial with a focus on Cadillac, America’s iconic luxury car. A fabulous selection of historic Cadillacs, on loan from the General Motors Heritage Collection, will be on display from July 27th through November 2nd.

For more than 100 years, Cadillac has pioneered automotive advances such as precision interchangeable parts, which helped it win the prestigious Dewar Trophy in 1908, and later pioneered the first electric self-starter in 1912. Cadillac also introduced the first industry V-16 in 1931, and launched the postwar years with sleek tailfins in 1948. Today, Cadillac’s exciting design renaissance, highlighted by razor-edged styling on vehicles like the award-winning CTS and 2009 Escalade Hybrid, have made the brand a world-class luxury contender.

Speaking about the new exhibit, Jean Hoffman, the Museum’s Board Chairman, noted, “The Saratoga Automobile Museum is thrilled to be partnering with General Motors and proud to be featuring Cadillac, long the company's brand leader, and a world-renowned symbol of prestige, styling and engineering innovation.”

On display, will be an exact replica of the first Cadillac, a 1902 single-cylinder model; a 1920 Model 59 sedan with custom coachwork designed by Harley Earl; a 1931 Cadillac V-16 Touring car; a 1951 Cadillac Series 61 as raced by Briggs Cunningham at Le Mans; a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado with the brand’s signature towering tailfins; the last 1976 Eldorado Convertible; the breathtaking 2003 Cadillac Sixteen concept car and a contemporary Cadillac CTS-VR racecar, to name just a few.

On July 26th, the Museum will host a preview of the exhibit at its annual Summer Gala, where General Manager of the Cadillac Motor Division, James E. Taylor will be the event’s Honorary Chairman, and Ed Welburn, Vice President General Motors Global Design, will speak about the past, present, and future of GM car styling.

Billy F Gilbbons, of the rock group, ZZ Top, has loaned his famed CadZZilla coupe, designed by Larry Erickson, and built by Craig Naff and the late Boyd Coddington. This iconic custom car, considered the finest example of its kind in the 1990’s, and a Hot Rod Magazine cover subject, will be on hand for the entire run of the exhibit. This is the first time CadZZilla has been on the East Coast in decades, and it’s not to be missed.

In addition to these vintage cars, Cadillac will display the new, 2009 Escalade Hybrid and Escalade Platinum Series SUV’s.
