Ball joint?

If you lift that tire off the ground, and move the tire at 12 and 6 O'clock, if there's play it's the ball joint. Play at 3 and 9 is a tie rod. That's about all I know about that

My right ball joint needs replacing, and I was going to have my guy help me with it before he goes to Iraq for a year, but it's looking like he won't have time. If that's the case I'll be starting a ball joint thread I think

WARNING: I'm a total car newbie, don't be surprised if I ask a stupid question! Just trying to learn.

Cheers!

Forgot to add that i also get the "speed limited to 90" message. Im not real knowledgable with checking for "play" in the wheels... but i will try and see if i notice anything obvious. I did notice my alignment feels off, and when i make turns i have to turn the wheel more before i get a respone from the wheels. It was rainning on and off the past two days, hard at times... i dont know if theat could have messed up some wiring(espcially with my panel covers being off).

P1571

Powertrain Indicated Traction Control Malfunction

I would check to make sure none of the sensors or wires at the wheel broke, or the suspension rod connected to the control arm broke,

Just found this info guys...

"When the boot of a CV axle tears and rips, dirt gets in and grease leaks out. This causes the CV axle to make a thumping sound, especially when turning the car. The CV axles are an important part of your drive train. If left alone, the car will eventually become impossible to drive. The CV boots should be checked at every oil change. Changing them out is not that difficult."

remember my mines was done incorrectly when they did my trans.

Can anyone help me on the process to replace mines, do i just need to add the cv boot and add grease, or do i have to replace the who cv joint? any pics, manual info, or knowledge is greatly apreciated. thanks

If you have play/noises/shake/thumps from the cv joint, you will have to replace the whole half shaft. I would only change the boot if I caught it right away, and even then I might just put a half shaft on it, depending on miles and price difference.

Ill try to get my scanner working at home so I can scan some pages from my FSM, if not I can bring it into work next week and scan if noone else can.

thanks.. im thinking i might have to replace that half also. should i found a rebuilt one or buy a brand new one? how much do they cost around? Would the part be called "CV Half Shaft Assembly "?

They siad the people that did my trans did not bolt the rack back on tightly and one bolt broke off, the other is loose. there is a LOT of PLAY in my right wheel... when the car was on the lift i could almost turn the wheel all the way into the wheel well.. he said whoever did the trans job smurfed IT UP BADLY!!! cost is going to be around $1000 to repiar
