I don't know how that's really helping...

Well I'd hate to see you give the car away only to find out the problem was repairable.

I've seen it many times. Back in the 80's I used to make extra cash from purchasing cars that people thought were worthless. The best one was a '63 caddy convertible that the owner said needed a new motor and a whole new braking system. I picked up the car for $500 cash and invested $35 in a carb rebult kit and a used master cylinder and i was on the road. I drove that car for year before I sold it for $5000. I shoulda kept it though.

Also, my brother had a '69 Dart and he was certain it had a seized motor. Turned out to be a broken starter pinion.

Do what you want... but I'd recommend finding out exactly what's wrong with before I gave it away. It looks like the rest of the car is in pretty good shape. Unless, of course, you are just sick of the car. I've been there too.
