HVAC blows while turned Off?

Are you saying that while the KEY is OFF, the blower will start up by itself if the car gets hot sitting in the sun?

Explain your symptoms again VERY clearly, like this

KEY ON or OFF, CAR RUNNING or OFF

AC OFF or ON, etc...

I am confused as to what your symptoms are

Sorry for not being clear.

I start the car up and start driving. The A/C and heat is turned off, windows down. After a couple blocks the vents will start to blow air lightly, like at the lowest setting. If I turn on the A/C then it blows harder, and when I turn off the A/C it sometimes turns off completely and sometimes it goes back to blowing lightly. It doesn't blow for too long, my car ride home from work is 8 minutes and it stops by the time I get home. It doesn't happen in the mornings or at night, it seems to happen when I leave work, after the car has been sitting in the sun for hours. And it's not an every day thing, it only seems to happen on hot sunny days.

I really like your new avatar BBF, I was searching on google images for "cadillac girl" and I guess there's some band by that name. I got lazy and just used the first Cadi symbol that I found

I like your avatar also, that is what prompted me to change mine.

I think what you are experiencing is a failure mode of the controller on the blower motor. Send KHE a PM and direct him to this thread, as him if what you are experiencing is a failure symptom. I think it is. It seems heat is affecting your controller. I think KHE replaced some components on the motor controller if I recall..

I really like your avatar, I was looking for something just like that. Looks like I'll have to keep hunting one down.

I did as you suggested and sent KHE a PM. Hopefully he'll have a couple minutes to help me out. I'm still hoping it's something easier like a relay.

The symptom is intermittent blower motor operation correct? Usually, the blower motor dies quickly but I had one exhibit similar symtoms for two weeks before puking completely. Mine did not run with the ignition/climate panel off though.

It sounds to me like the blower motor is the problem. If you have the original blower motor - with the 1/2" thick inertial plate mounted on the face - I'm surprised it has lasted as long as it did. If you order a new blower, make sure you buy the heat shield - it used to be included with the service blower but is is no longer included - GM probably figures there are no first generation blowers left.

Thank you very much for the reply. Do you know if there's a relay that might be causing the issue? I believe the motor is original first gen, there's no metal shield. It's black. The motors are expensive and it doesn't look like a fun job, I'm going to try to see if it might be a relay, and if not then I think I'll let it die before I replace it.

I don't believe there's a relay that would cause the issue you're having. The tough part about troubleshooting intermttent problems is getting it to act up in order to troubleshoot it.
