BodybyFisher
Something does not seem right here, or I am missing info from another thread. Are there more details here? How much did you buy this car for? Is it a 1997? What would induce the seller to sink $$$ into this car or more to replace an engine? If the block is cracked you need a new engine, period. Is he putting a junk yard engine in. What am I missing I bought the car for 4k, gave the guy 1k down and he set up payments for a year on the differance. The guy is a good guy and has made alot of money on his reutation as a good car dealer, and he said that if he had to lose money on the deal, then so be it. I called the mechanic today, that he has working on the car and ask him about the timesert and he told me that they were doing a complete head job on the car. I look at it this way, if the car is good after this then i saved alot of money on things that would have gone wrong in the future . If I had the option of returning the car i would have, but there is no 3 day law in wisconsin for contracts and it was bought as is.( I bought it in good faith and he is honoring his end i believe) to repair the undiscloded problems. Confused...... Confused about? When did the problem move from a cracked block to a bad head gasket? Listen, you need to CONFIRM that they will be TIME-SERTING the engine if they replace the head gasket, otherwise you will have the SAME problem VERY soon, it will not likely last one year if its not time-serted. DO NOT allow them to do a head gasket job WITHOUT time-serting the engine. You have been warned. If they DO NOT timesert the engine DO NOT accept the car. Hopefully that clears up the confusion. BodybyFisher
I am going to keep beating this drum. IF you do not understand what timeserting means ask. If your mechanic needs to know have him come here. IF he replaces the head gaskets WITHOUT timeserting the block, you will have a problem no doubt about that. I am curious how long is the warranty for, 90 days?, it might last that long if he does it and adds block sealer (not advised) but I doubt that it would last 12 months. adallak
Mike, they never mentioned headgaskets. They mentioned a cracked block and "complete headjob" whatever it means... The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
BodybyFisher
Mike, they never mentioned headgaskets. They mentioned a cracked block and "complete headjob" whatever it means... the complete headjob is what I caught, and I have assumed that his problem is bad head gaskets and not a cracked block as was originally stated. If he does not move on this fast enough they will replace the head gaskets without timeserting the block assuming that complete HEADJOB means head gasket replacement. jerrymac
This thread confuses me . How did a cracked block turn into a "complete head job" ? Is he throwing in his daughter with the deal, lol? Seriously, though, it would seem to me that they don't really know what is wrong and are just guessing. And if that is the case, as BBF stressed above, how do you know if the repairs will be done properly? It seems as though you tend to believe everything this guy is telling you, even when this information seems to be conflicting. I wish you luck.... You said, "He told me that yes he was timeserting the head and that he replacing the head gaskets " He does not TIMESERT the HEAD, he TIMESERTS the BLOCK. Get it in writing that he TIMESERTED the BLOCK when you pick up the car, so you have evidence to sue him later when its not TIMESERTED. The timesert kit alone is $400. I hope this turns out ok Here is the info on time-serts http://www.time-sert.com And here is the info on the NS timesert kit http://www.timesert.com/html/gm.html Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Delta
Sounds like he's been warned, I would have given him the car back, and walked away. Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.....too many problems in such a short time.
