Yesterday at 10:15 am, my mother's husband, William, died peacefully in the hospital. He was 85 years old. He suffered with congestive heart failure for a few years. They installed a pacemaker which helped for a while and then his kidneys started to fail as they were not receiving enough blood. They performed dialysis on him which helped but was not good enough. They did a full blood transfusion on him on Tuesday without much change in his condition. He was sleeping in his hospital bed and died peacefully.

He was a really great guy. Treated my mother well, in fact, spoiled her...LOL!!

He will be greatly missed.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

I am sorry Marika

Thanks, Mike.

My mother told me yesterday that Bill had purchased a 2008 Chevy Impala at the end of 2007. My mother told me she's going to give me the car, which Bill paid for the car in full. This means that I'll be probably getting rid of the '92 Caddy and I would like the Caddy to have a good home. I probably won't be selling it since who the hell would give me something for it anyway so instead I think once the estate gets squared away and the 2008 Impala is mine, I'm just going to hope that I can find someone who will appreciate the Caddy and take care of her. Maybe someone who has enough money to fix her up and take her to car shows where she belongs.

You have my condolences.

Thanks, Larry. I appreciate it. I really like Bill, he was what I would really call, a good man. He spoiled mom good.

Marika,

I'm sorry about your loss.

Its very generous of your Mom to give you a new car

and ease some worry and stress in your life.

I followed the saga about your Caddy.

Hopefully the Impala will be easier for you to maintain.

I rented Impalas several times on business

trips and have been pleased it's performance and comfort.

I'm a 6 footer, 300lbs and can appreciate the roominess of it.

Even the back seat isn't too bad.

I just read there are 3 engines available.

Do you know if it has the standard 211 hp, LTZ 240 hp or SS 303 hp engine?

I wish I could have driven the 303 !!

Take care.

Thank you for your kindness.

I don't know what model of Impala he bought, hopefully not the high end model otherwise my insurance premiums are going to be through the roof. I'll let everyone know when I finally get the car. We still have to probate the estate which will take a few days or so.

Marika,

Sorry for your loss. I also have been following your neverending issues with overheating. As far as the Impala, I also rented a few for business. I had a bright red Impala SS with the 303. I believe it's the Corvette engine. only car I ever drove where I could be moving, gun the gas, and the tires will spin out. Only complaint was that it really really ate up the gas. I actually returned it for another car after 1 week - and this was last summer when gas was still cheap. Most likely your future car is not the SS model. All the other Impalas I had were OK with gas. BTW, in 2012 please change the coolant on your Impala, and don't flush it out with a garden hose and compromise the 50/50 mix!! :)

I doubt Bill bought the SS model. I'll let everyone know once I get it.

As for car care, I take care of my cars and keep to a schedule. I check the fluids under the hood weekly and in the case of the 92 caddy, I was under the hood daily. What happened to this car was not my fault, it was a pre-existing condition that I knew nothing about until after I got the car and started to experience problem after problem. The previous owner neglected the car, plain and simple and I paid a very heavy price for that neglect.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. Marika,

Very sorry to hear about your loss.

Like others here, I too have rented Impala's.

Usually the 240 HP LTZ models. They run, ride and drive very well.

I was seriously considering buying one, when I bought my 2006 DTS Performance Sedan.

I was looking at the SS model...but could not find one that was the right color and fully loaded.

I read some reviews about the Impala, seems the consumers who already own it were giving it 9's and 10's in their ratings of the car. I also think Chevy gives it the 100,000 mile/5 year warranty but I'm not sure about that or how it works.

Yea, these caddies can be a hand full.

I've only been hanging around the forum for a year now, but I get the impression there

are a lot of bad previous owners out there passing their problems onto others.

I know who the previous owner of my caddy is and I think people just don't realize that cars are not maintenance-free. You have to check them and take care of them. Example; the previous owner bought a new SLS, I think it's a 2004. Anyway, I'm willing to bet he's NEVER looked under the hood of that car. What makes me say that? Recently, that SLS had to be taken into the dealership for over $3,000 in repairs. Why? Because the DIC flashed the message LOW COOLANT. Now, obviously the owners manual never became top priority reading otherwise that sentence in the manual that says you should check your vehicle's fluids monthly would have stuck in his mind. So one day, he'll sell that car to someone else who will really love the car and end up in the same boat I'm in. Thousands of dollars in repairs, bankruptcy and heartbreak in the end.

It looks like I might not be getting the Impala after all. My mother is now talking about selling the car and keeping the money. This is not uncommon for her to switch directions like this so at this point I'm not keeping my hopes up too high anymore.

This is not uncommon with my mother. She tends to change direction like the wind. Well, this will be like a suspense novel I guess.... <_<

Well, I saw her today and she said she would give the car to me....LOL!! She even let me go downstairs and get in the car and start it (not drive it), I noticed right away it has a very similar interior to my 92 Caddy, beige with wood trim. I think it's the LT model with "Flex Fuel" It has about 3,500 miles on it. It's seems to change color, looking silvery and then beige-ish. Nice car. We'll see if I'm still getting it as of tomorrow....LOL!!

For all the good it does... I am hoping she keeps her word and gives you the car.

Hey Marika.

Giving away a new car is very generous. Think of it this way, if she donated it to

charity, she would at least get a tax deduction. Giving it to a relative only

gets her warm fuzzies.

I was just thinking maybe you can offer her a token of gratitude? Here's a few ideas:

1) Scrape up some cash and put in an envelope. Say "Mom, it isn't much, but..."

2) Perhaps buy her a gift or give her an item of value you have.

3) Perform a service for her. Offer to take her grocery shopping or

take her to doctor's appt.

4) Maybe you can do something for her husband would

normally take care of?

Just some thoughts. Good luck.

My mother KNOWS that I jump at any opportunity to help her in any way. Yesterday I spent several hours with her going over documents and writing letters to Social Security and her husband's pension plan to transfer accounts over to her name. I'm working closely with the attorney who drafted her husband's Will so we can get this probated as quickly as possible.
