pushinthelac
I noticed that my 95 SLS shakes...not a little shake, the whole front end vibrates at only the speeds of 55-75 Mph. At 80 and above or 55 and below it drives very smooth. I have taken it to a local tire place and at first the changed the bearings on the wheels, but that didn't do it. They inspected it and could not find one thing wrong. I have taken it to a caddy specialist....does anyone know what can be wrong?
Scotty
Has the wheel balance been checked How are the tires? Has the runout been checked, if the balance it ok? If that is good, see if you can balance the wheels in place, to see if the tires are truely round and there are no problems with the tires, Have the wheels be tightened with a torque wrench to spec, how are the tie-rods, Check the wheels for straightness, and worn lug nut seats Mike
Barry94
Has anyone tried Poly bushings in the front to cure minor shakes. ? If you have done all the suggested fixes, good list Scotty, and still have minor problems. Cadillacs are very sensitive to anything that is less than perfect with the wheels/tires. My wife has a 2001 Sunfire GT. You could put square tires on it and still not get any vibrations. However, you do get a lot of road noise in the cabin. Increased tire pressure can help as well. 36-38 lbs. Barry 2008 STS V82016 Colorado Z711970 Corvette LT-1 Coupe
up2ng
CV joints, that's whay I would guess or you have a tire going bad. Have the tires rotated front to back, if the vibration stops you have to get new tires.
Rickster
Had the vibration. Went as far as getting new tires. Still had vibration. What fixed it was a proper wheel balance (Hunter GSP 7900). Smooth as silk now. 2001 STS Mettalic Otter Grey, Black Leather, 213,000 kilometers - miles - ? Still running strong!
pushinthelac
Well fellas, now the caddy rides smoother than ever. Here is was a broken belt on the front right tire that was causing the shaking. It is sad, but the local tire place could not even find it or juss never really looked. No problem though as i got the tire replaced, juss glad it wasn't something more extreme...
