Hi,

On the sub forum Cadillac Club Sweden there is a guy needing a replacement crankshaft to his 331 engine. It’s meant for a 1954 Caddy 4d Sedan. Can anyone on this forum help?

Thanks

Bengt, have you tried Kanter? They have an entire rebuilding kit for the 331 engine, individual parts but I don't see the crank. You might start by dropping them an email, Mike

Also Hemmings Motor News is another good source for vintage parts, check out this site, you might scan the classifieds, or place an ad. There are also companies that advertise in this publication that might be able to help

Dear Bengt,

Ask the guy for all the information that he can supply. Are there any forging numbers on the old crankshaft? Any other markings that may be used to identify the proper crank would be helpful. The engine serial number would also be helpful.

Possibly there is someone on this page that has one in his garage.

If the old crank is not broken, then there are companies that restore crankshafts by welding up the journals and then regrinding them to standard size.

I have in the distant past used this type of repair to restore a crankshaft that was otherwise unobtainable.

Possibly a company that performs that service can be found in Sweden. Generally they work on industrial engines, but they should be able to work on an automobile engine as well.

Good Luck,

Britt

The same people that can restore a crankshaft by welding more crankshaft alloy and regrinding to original size can also rebuild cam lobes and grind them to original specifications. Often other parts, such as cracked heads, can also be repaired.

Hi,

thanks for your offer but for the moment I´m only interested in a very good crankshaft so I can turn the crank to fit new connecting rod bearings and crankshaft main bearings.

I wish to stay with the old engine so I don´t lose matching numbers.

Best regards

Good point, I had not considered that. I know a very good engine rebuilder on Long Island, I will give him a call this week and see if he has any sources for this crank.. Will advise, Mike
