UKcat
according to the cadillac service manual, this valve is inside the compressor and is not serviceable. Our air shocks have not worked for quite some time; the car does not appear to sit high or low, as such; but when we have passengers in the back seat, the ride is hard and stiff. The car is a 1998 STS. What do we do???? I have read the articles about replacing the rear shocks with the Arnott's; will this work in our case because our air compressor does not work???? Need help, again, please!!!! My "other car" 1968 Pontiac GTO, 400, 4 speed, 366 h.p., matching numbers car *Get well soon, John Force!!!*
BodybyFisher
The exhaust solenoid comes into play to lower the rear, but you say that your compressor is not working. If it was working it is likely that your rear would be sitting high. If you replace your rear air shocks, you will need your compressor to work. I would advise either removing it and fixing it or finding one in a scrap yard that works, otherwise you will have no air in your rear shocks, I am surprised you are not sitting low currently. The compressor sits behind the RR wheel Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
UKcat
As far as I can tell, the compressor does not work. I never hear it run anymore; the car does sit a little low, I guess. It does not sit high. You suggest to remove it and fix it. The manual says this solenoid is not serviceable; so, how do I fix it??? I looked on Arnott's web page; I saw where someone mentioned buying the compressor from them, but I do not see it offered. Any more suggestions???? What gives????????? My "other car" 1968 Pontiac GTO, 400, 4 speed, 366 h.p., matching numbers car *Get well soon, John Force!!!*
BodybyFisher
WOW, you are fast! I am impressed, that is not an easy job, do you have a lift? Check for power at the harness, check fuses and relays and connections for corrosion. UKcat
There is power to the harness. He took the head apart that has the solenoid in it; of course you can't tell anything about it. He put the compressor back on the car, but did not hook it back up directly. He then "jumped" it and it came on and raised the car about an inch; it is holding air; the back of the car was deffinitely low, but sits better now. So.......is the head on the compressor replaceable; if so, where do we get it and how much???? Or, would we be better off to try to get a complete unit from a salvage yard. Well I assume that the head IS replaceable, I replaced the HEAD on my 91, its a long time ago, and I can't remember how much it was. Good Job, I am not sure why she is not starting without you jumping it, you might have a corroded relay or fuse, that is important, replacing the head might not solve the start up problem. You might need to wait after you turn your key on, as you know the compressor does not work for about a minute or so. BodybyFisher
You might have POWER at the compressor 100% of the time, but a relay completes the GROUND side, keep that in mind. UKcat
he checked the fuses and relays. The service manual suggested to check the elc relay; he did that; he switched it out with the one that operates the rear interior lights; they are the same relays; the one he switched out did work the lights so it has to be good. He has not restarted the car yet; he is looking now at something else; so I probably won't know anything else for a while!!!
