93 Deville Stalling

If you're talking about spark knock, have a look at the EGR delivery tubes - remove the air intake to the throttle body and hold the throttle wide open. The two 1/2" dia. tubes should not be plugged up with carbon. If they are, rod them out with a small screwdriver.

WOW, I have to stop scanning posts, how did I convert SPARK KNOCK to the #1 MAIN BEARING KNOCK, I'm losing it, :fighting0025::lol:

I manually actuated the egr and the car almost died on me, wouldnt that indicate the tubes are clear? Any how just gonna try and get it to idle.... coul the Map sensor be bad/dirty?

I spent a couple of years trying to get rid of that spark knock or detonation, it was not until I replaced my EGR that it stopped. Definately clean the EGR tubes that you see when you look down into the throttle body with a round wire brush or a hanger. A lack of EGR flow is what causes the detonation or spark knock

Anyone know where the EGR vacuum solenoid is located? The best way to check it is to feel for vacuum when its placed into a D or R? .

The only vacuum hose attached to the EGR valve comes from the EGR solenoid. There should be no vacuum from the EGR solenoid to EGr valve at idle, and there will be vacuum in D or R.

The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

Correct - but the ECM does not call for EGR at idle or full throttle so he will need to power brake it in order to verify that vacuum is present.

Sorry about the long delay, my pc has been offline for a while. Ok there is vacuum going into the solenoid but none going to the egr when the car is in gear. So It seems the solenoid isnt opening the egr when it should, accounting for the spark knock right? I pulled the vacuum supply line off the solenoid and put it directly on the egr and the car started running like crap, so I assume the egr is good. Im not sure whats causing the stalling though

There should be no EGR at idle, thus no vacuum at idle. When you applied direct vacuum at idle and it stumbled would indicate that it is working. The only question would be does the solenoid supply vacuum when it is supposed to at cruise?

I had my brother power brake the car and there was no vacuum.

Tape a vacuum gage to the windshield and go for a drive. Put the gage on the EGR side of the solenoid... You will have your answer
