97 ELDORADO ETC

INTERMITANT STARTING PROBLEMS THROUGHT DAY STARTS FINE ONE TIME AND THE NEXT TIME HAVE TO CRANK THE STARTER 10 TO 15 SEC. ACTS LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING FUEL. INSTALLED NEW FUEL FILTER TO NO AVAIL.HAS A RICH FUEL SMELL.RUNS FINE AFTER IT STARTS

I would check the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). Pull the vacuum hose off it and turn key on (engine off) and check for gas. If there is gas then replace the FPR. Check the archives there are plenty of posts on this.

That is definetly true and also the Idle air motor. Clean it and or replace it. If you put your foot on the gas just a little bit when it doesnt start, and with doing that it starts, then the IAC is just sticking. Shouldnt be a big deal, clean and or replace and you should be ok.

Definately sounds like a leaky FPR

However, you have a 97, make sure that your FUEL RAIL was replaced, while the FPR will cause flooding, I want to make sure your rail was replaced, it should be stainless steel NOT plastic. I think your year was included in the recall. (I am concerned with the fuel smell here, and to be sure its not the fuel rail)
