WarrenJ
Yeah, some of us old timers have been there many times before, but the young pups need to see this stuff. And know where their Cadillacs came from. Even if it's ugly. <a href="http://www.1959cadillac.com/historical_significance.htm" target="_blank">http://www.1959cadillac.com/historical_significance.htm</a> Darn!! I would kill your Aunt Matilda to have one of them! Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. JimD
....Even if it's ugly.Uglier yet is the 1957 Eldorado Brougham (four door hardtop with suicide rear doors) but someone paid $130,000 for one at the recent Barrett-Jackson extravaganza. In 1957, the SMRP was ~~$13,000. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
joeb
my cousin bought a 59 when he was 18. he was an absolute car nut. he never did drive it much. it was not his only car and he just wanted to say he finally had bought one. of course i drove my dad's 59 thunderbird once in awhile so it did not seem very odd. jock82
I think the older Cadillacs are a lot better looking than the newer ones. I have been driving Cadillacs since 1970 and their looks really started going downhill about 1994. I have a 1994 Concours and a 1989 de Ville. I was really disappointed in 2000 when they changed the style of the de Ville. I thought that was really an ugly car. The DTS is a slight improvement but not really a lot. The most beautiful Eldorados were the 67's thru the 1974 and the 1979 thru 1985. Of course the style of all cars is toward the rounded stubby look. I would love to have a 1957 or 1958 Eldorado Brougham or a 1959. At least they look like Cadillacs.
Texas Jim
I think the mid 50's to the mid 60's Cadillacs, were some of the best looking and most distinctive automobiles ever made.
BodybyFisher
I loved the 50's and 60's Cadillac styling, and waited every two years for the major changes they instituted. My parents owned a 55, 59, 62, 64, 65 and I owned a 66, 68 and 74. If I won the lottery, I would find a 68 convertible and restore it Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
WarrenJ
. . . If I won the lottery, I would find a 68 convertible and restore it If I won the lottery I'd buy one already restored, preferably by a deep-pocketed fellow like Jay Leno. Regards, Warren Warren, I am with you. I would buy one already restored ... then DRIVE IT.... .. Great minds think alike, Jim! Just to clear up the mystery, BbF buys stuff from Lakeland/(Lakewood?) Auto Recyclers. I'm told that he has a monogrammed coffee mug there in a position of honor just above the coffee machine. (Maybe you remember "Mr. Bender's coffee mug?") Mike (BbF) got me a compass mirror for my 1998 Eldorado from Lakexxxx for $25 when Cadauto.com was asking $95 for it. Nice to be friends with Mike. BTW, IIRC, the guy at the recycle place is named "Mike." Regards, Warren P.S. It's always nice to know that Mike/BbF can ship me an engine wherever I might be in the known Universe.
