stu_pidasso
Hi everyone, I am new here and I am amazed by how awesome this forum seems to be! Anyway, My SLS has 81000 miles and is running rough. I put some Lucas top engine/injector cleaner (2 different times at fill up). I have heard inj. cleaner can damage o2 sensors. Does anyone know if this is true and would a bad o2 make it run rough (only at idle)? I'm going to get my codes checked right now and I will have more info. soon. Thanks everyone... Ok, P0171 is the code. I found a few posts similar but not the same. It says bank one fuel trim condition. Now that I have run a few tanks of gas only, should I unhook the neg. cable to see if my computer will reset?
Ranger
Start by cleaning the TB and checking for a vacuum leak. Specifically check the plenum (rubber coupler between the TB and intake manifold).
Poobah
Now that I have run a few tanks of gas only, should I unhook the neg. cable to see if my computer will reset? If, by "resetting the computer", you mean clearing the codes, there's an easier way. After the computer reports all the codes, it will ask you if you want to clear them. Just answer "yes". Disconnecting the battery will set three or four new codes. Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.

I cleared out the codes and it is still giving me a P0171 and P0174. I just am still wondering if a bad O2 sensor will make it run rough??? JimD
No, I heard that unhooking the battery for an hour or two will make the computer adjust to the car Not true.I cleared out the codes and it is still giving me a P0171 and P0174. Those two codes together usually mean the "plenum" is leaking air. What GM calls a plenum is a rubber seal between the throttle body and the intake manifold. If not the plenum, a failing fuel pump could be the cause. You really want it to be a leaking plenum. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
