algonyea
Hello, I have a 95 STS and the car is all over the road. It feels like the suspension is not hooked to the body. If you move the steering wheel with a quick movement it feels like the suspension is going one way and the body another. Has anyone else had this problem or can suggest what is wrong. Thanks AL
MAC
First thing I would check is the Lower Control Arm (See # 12 in diagram) rod nut is tight. It may have vibrated loose which would cause sudden drifting/movement to one side. To conduct a quick inspection, just turn the steering all the way to one side then look inside the wheel well in front at the rod that attaches to the frame. Repeat for the other side. If there is a space between the rubber bushing and the frame, chances are the nut is loose. To do a complete inspection would require you to jack up the car, get on your back and visually inspect the nut and use a socket to see if it's loose. I will check that out tonight. I am getting the same problem from the rear of the car and at some times it feels worst from the back. I took the car to a shop and they put it on a lift and looked at both the front and rear and told me they could see nothing missing or loose. This was just a small repair shop and not a dealer. Thanks AL It sounds dangerous to me. It sounds like the steering rack, or something in the steering linkage. I would jack each wheel up and check for play at 3 and 9 o clock. Check to see if the steering rack bolts came loose we have heard that before. MAC
Also, the Lower Control Arm bushings could be worn, particularly if they are the softer stock rubber bushings instead of polyurethane. If one of the bushing fell off there would be play in the rod, which would cause unstable steering and drifting.
