WarrenJ
Windfall profit taxes will do absolutely nothing to bring prices down. The politicians who are calling for such a tax are too stupid to realize that the oil companies will just pass the cost on to the consumer and the end effect will be still higher fuel costs... The economy cannot continue to endure $4.00+ gasoline... With respect, I think the politicians are not stupid. Rather (I think), they believe WE are the stupid ones! Their disingenuous posturing is simply calculated to garner support from voters they privately hold in contempt. Big Oil last quarter earned $1 for every $3 it paid in taxes. Our government has already enjoyed its windfall. Big time. Oil companies take risks, drill, pump oil, transport, refine it, and distribute gasoline in order to earn a profit of $0.10/gallon. Our government does nothing, yet "earns" a profit of about $0.50/gallon. And they want more . . . Here is what the head of Exxon (Tillerson) said yesterday, "Everything we do, the numbers are very large. I saw someone [barack Obama] characterize our profits the other day in terms of $1,400 in profit per second." Well, they also need to understand we paid $4,000 a second in taxes, and we spent $15,000 a second in cost. We spend $1 billion a day just running our business. So this is a business where large numbers are just characteristic of it. Liberal Democrat emotional talking points can not stand up to facts. Texas Jim
I want some of them OBAMA CERTIFIED tire pressure gauges that are gonna save us MILLIONS AND MILIONS of gallons of gas a day. Can we get a group buy going and save some money buying them (gauges) and then we will all save a LOT of money by not having to buy very much gasoline. JimD
Oil futures (September delivery) are trading at less than $120 per barrel today. That is down from ~~$145 less than one month ago. Gasoline (87 octane) is around $3.85 in this part of GA. I'm expecting less than $3.00 after Labor Day. Oil traded at less than $114 per barrel today. For those in Loma Linda, that is a $6.00 decline in 10 days. Gold is trading at less than $800 per ounce compared to the high $9xx figure of not too long ago. And the $US is showing some gains against the Euro and other currencies. Just a few of the signs that we are getting this ship headed in the right direction. Oil is trading at less than $106 and 87 octane fuel can be had for $3.40 today. The pendulum swings. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! Seems like when oil crested the $100 mark in Jan '08 , regular gas was at the $2.99 mark... OPEC will probably start talking about production cuts now... Marika
Paid $3.32/gallon this morning for regular. Doesn't seem to be moving much lower here in Northern New Jersey. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. 95SevilleSLS
The price of gas is going up here for some reason. We were at 3.69 the other day and now we are back up to 3.89. It seem someone is price gouging considering oil prices are going down and gas is going up. The last time oil was this price, gas was about $3.14 or so. They're fast to raise the price, but extremley slow to lower it. -Dusty- - 02 Seville STS, white diamond - 93 Sixty Special, Tan with vinyl top - 79 Coupe DeVille, Tan with Tan top - 06 GMC Sierra Z71, Black - 92 Silverado C1500, black and grey - 83 Chevy K10 Silverado, Black and Grey
JimD
Prices are up in this area because of the "Ike spike" which should fade away in a week or so. At least one high-volume gas station close to me is out of fuel until Wednesday. Almost all of our fuel comes from the Gulf. Oil closed trading today @ $94.18. Jim Drive your car. daniel812
The reason fuel prices are rising and will continue to rise for at least the next two weeks is because of shortages. Over half of the oil in the US comes out of Texas. The refineries have not been damaged from Hurricane Ike, but most do not have any power. This means they can not pump fuel which is causing shortages. Since there are shortages, prices rise and many stations are having trouble getting deliveries. The refineries should have power within 3-4 days from now and hopefully by the end of the month fuel prices will come back down.

JimD
You will see gas price relief in line with the price of crude when the Gulf coast refineries finally get back to full production. There was some refinery damage but not an obscene amount. The major problem is damage to the electrical power grid. You cannot crack oil without electricity. You cannot push the product through the delivery pipeline without electricity. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
Logan
Well, more bad news... The ones with the numbers missing from the street.... Means they are 'ou't gas. Local Travel America had a line of cars lined up at the pump at 10:15 tonight. I myself got a full tank at 2 pm. Driving further, I see many cars on a mad hunt for gas. Turning into Shell, turning right back around after they see the bags over the pump handles.. Scam, plenty of gas. Hold back play. Over the last 20 years there have been storms. Today the stations are out of gas? BS! JimD
....Scam, plenty of gas. Hold back play. Over the last 20 years there have been storms. Today the stations are out of gas? BS! It has been more than 20 years since new-additional refining capacity was built in the US. Federal/state/local environmental regulations combine to make refinery construction permits almost impossible to obtain. No one wants a refinery in their back yard. How much has the population grown in 20 years? How many more vehicles on the road today? I don't know the numbers, but anyone who has been driving for 20+ years can see/feel the impact of more and more cars on the roads. Under perfect conditions with all of our domestic refining capacity up and running, we still have to import refined oil products. The supply balance can easily be tipped by a storm that knocks as little as 10 or 20% of the Texas/Louisiana refining capacity off-line for a week or two. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. Logan
You dont have to go back 20 years. Go back a few to Katrna. Much more damage to the oil supplly structure then Ike.
