security light

I'm a new member and I apologize if this topic is an old one. I recently bought a 1995 Eldorado that I can honestly say is the best car I ever owned. The other night on the way home from work I noticed the security light was on and now it's been on steady for two days. I read some of the other security light topics on here and tried cleaning the pass key and lock cylinder with rubbing alcohol and the light is still on. I also used my spare pass key. I never got the "starting disabled " message or any codes. Is there a way to reset the light or security system. Is this something I should worry about if it's not throwing codes or messages?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Look at the trunk for being fully closed as well as hood and both doors. Light goes out after verifying all items are fully closed.

Bill,

Thanks for the info! Is there any kind of sensor or switch that is on either the doors, trunk or hood that I can check? I opened and closed all the doors, trunk and hood multiple times and the light is still on.

I did notice that the light came on after I went to the car wash to spray the salt off my car. It wasn't until later that night when the temps went below freezing that I noticed the light was on. Could this be a possible cause? Just yesterday our temps hit around 55 and I would think if something was frozen it would have thawed. One other point of interest was that same night my passenger window was frozen and worked after the car warmed up.

Thanks for your time!

The door jamb switches complete the circuit. Underhood should see a switch mounted on the radiator support thats depressed when hood's down. The trunk switch is within the trunk latch. You need the factory service manual to pull DTC's to verify door locks complete the circuit as well as other tests.

I think your passkey or vats security system failed. Fortunately for you, it failed while the car was running and it disabled itself (hence the security light). Otherwise, you would have been stranded somewhere. Had it happen to me recently on my 95 Chevy. Celebrate mann! and I wouldn't worry about the light.
