gregt848
Alright guy's, here is what I have happening, I could use some real guidance. When it is cold out 40 degrees or below and the car is first started (cold) it stalls often while at complete stops until it gets really warm. During this period and sometimes even later, I am getting a rough idle, where it drops to almost stalling before going back up. If the car is cold, it stall here. When warmed up, the car will not stall, but I do see a slight jumpy RPM's. When I look at the codes, I get two that may relate or may not. I get the PCM P0300 mis-fire, and the P1599, stall detected. In the summer time, it does not stall at all. Do you think that the misfire is causing this or are they two separate issues? The Service engine light is on, due to the mis fire code, and when code cleared, it does not come back on for sometime, but the car still stalls in the cold weather so I don;t know if it is that which is causing it. Any advise or direction would be awesome. What do you think is happening and what can I try myself beofre bringing it to a mechanic which is a last resort. I am fairly good at fixing stuff and would like some help trying a few fixes and going down the list. I appreciate anything, Greg
Cadillac Jim
Your symptoms are misfire when idling cold in the wintertime with occasional stalls. How many miles do your spark plugs have on them? If it's over 60,000 miles, you might consider new spark plugs and wires. You can check for arcing at night by raising the hood and watching for sparks in the dark. Be sure and get the OEM plugs and wires for your car, AC/Delco brand. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. gregt848
I know the plugs have been changed once. I did not do them myself, so i don't know what was used. The wires could be original, most likely are. The car has about 123,000 on it right now, and the plugs were probably done at 80-90k. So you think that the mis-firing is related to the stalling and rough idling? Its weird because in the warm spring summer months, it does not stall. I am going to try and cleam the TB first and if that does not correct the problem I will try and tackle the plugs and wires. If anyone else has anything to add, I am open to suggestion tips and opinions. Thanks for the quick respnse.
Ranger
Start by cleaning the TB. If the problem persists, clean the EGR valve.
