Patrick7997
Okay, If you're asking ANY poster.... sorry, but in my neck of the woods, LOF means "Lube, Oil, Filter"... I never heard of OLF either.... sorry. Second, don't criticize the guy's picture... that's just over the line. And who has a problem with Chief Engineer Scott, anyway?? What did he ever do to anyone?? And since the Actor, Mr Doohan, has passed away recently, maybe you could tone it down a little... BodybyFischer has helped a lot of people on this board, and he has provided some very interesting narratives of some of the dificult repairs he has done himself, in his own garage, which to me, is an inspiration.... So, be careful... With all due respect, sir, you remind me of my brother... God Bless him, I love the guy, but he is really looking for a "hands off" ownership experience.... He knows how to add gasoline, and where to put the key, and which way to turn it.... that's about it. And there's nothing wrong with that. I have no problem with that. But if that's the ownership experience you are looking for, I humbly suggest you buy a brand new car, drive it for 3 years under a full factory warranty, and then trade it for another new car... I also concur with KHE, most of your disappointments sound DEALER related, not CADILLAC related... Just my humble opinion.... (I personally think that a lot of the bad perception of GM comes from their bad dealers, not their bad products, but that's just me...) I don't really talk about a lot of my other vehicles on this board, because in general, people aren't interested (although they are willing to help, if you ask in a nice way... someone on this board found me a website where I could buy parts for the stereo in my Tahoe, for example...), but I will admit, I am toying with the idea of an Infiniti G35 Coupe, a used one. Buying used though, I don't expect any more or any less than I would of a used Cadillac or a used anything else. I expect there may be some issues. As research, again, as was suggested to you, I am lurking on some Infiniti boards, to see what's going on, what sort of things to watch out for.... Are there differences?? Yeah, there seem to be. Again, you have to decide what you're looking for in an ownership experience. I might tone it down... again, I'm not sure why your anger is not being more directed at the dealer... but try to take it easy. If you like the car, this board could be very valuable to you, even if you don't work on your car yourself. Case in point, a friend of mine has a 96 Fleetwood. Nice. The rear window all the sudden wouldn't roll up. A mechanic told her it needed all new stuff inside, new motor, new everything. I copied a post from a forum where someone said "No, all it needs is the tracks, the GM part # for the track kit is this..." I printed out that post, she handed it to her mechanic, who immediately poo-poo-ed it.... so she advised the service manager "I'm not paying for anything but that kit, and the labor." Well, whaddaya know.... she got the car back, only got charged for the kit and the labor, and the window has worked perfect for over a year.... And, again, that's a bad DEALER, not a bad CAR... You don't have to be a mechanic to get a lot of benefit from the expertise here... Again, if you like the car, this board has a lot of priceless priceless information on it, and you can share your passions for Cadillacs with other people who share your passion.... Otherwise, feel free to move onto something else.... it's a free country... amongst the freedoms you enjoy, you have the freedom to have your own opinion.... as was stated earlier, though, don't walk into a Harley Bar and start telling me about your Kawasaki..... that's not going to end well.... Sorry for the Manifesto, but you asked for ANY other poster to chime in.....
Texas Jim
Golfnut, I am another ANY OTHER POSTER. I don't post a lot here but read every post that is made. I have learned a LOT from the people on this board. I agree with others that you have NOT been treated like crap by Cadillac. You were MAYBE treated like crap by a cadillac DEALER. I also agree with YOU that it shouldn't have happened the way you described it. The paint should have been done RIGHT the first time. Why didn't you try a different dealer? At least at SOMEPOINT in the eight years? If the attitude you have on this board, is any indication of your attitude when you go to the dealer... it is no wonder that you were treated like you were. I worked in customer service (in the computer industry) for a number of years. We had guldelines we had to go by for service. SOMETIMES .... depending on the CUSTOMERS ATTITUDE .... we would go WAY BEYOND what was REQUIRED to help them. By the same token.... we could stick to the guidelines and do just the absolute MINIMUM to help you ... A lot of the help you got was dependent on YOUR attitude when I answered the phone. You immediatly jump on ME and start bad mouthing MY PRODUCT about how crappy it is... you will get the minimum. That is just human nature. If you will just be halfway nice and ask for help... I will go way out of my way to help you. I actually ENJOY helping people, but not if YOU are verbally abusing ME while I am trying to help you. I think most people are the same way. The people on this board continually go out of their way to help other people. The one you are griping at... BBF... has, numerous times, found parts for people and even had them shipped to other people... a few times even overseas. He has helped a lot of people and his knowledge of Cadillacs is pretty good. Sometimes if he doesn't KNOW the answer.. he will do research and FIND the answer... all just to help someone. Like BBF and Patrick7997 said... if you can't or won't do some of your own work... you need a car with warranty. An older car, on average, will get progressivly more expensive to operate and maintain. I have a 2006. I will get the extended warranty on it when the factory warranty is almost up. When the extended warranty runs out... I will trade it for a new or almost new one, with a warranty. I am no longer able, nor do I have the time to do the work myself. I have the ABILITY to do it, but am getting too old and stiff to crawl around, in, on and under the vehicle. I take it to the CADILLAC DEALER. Unlike you, I am blessed with a good dealer. At least so far. I hope it stays that way.
Texas Jim
Need to ask everyones opinion. Do I have a LEMON? By some definitions, I reckon I do. I just never thought about it in that way. Since I bought the car new... The Air Conditioned seat had to have the control module replaced. Warranty fix. One of the parking sensors failed in the front bumper. Warranty fix. Discount Tire messed up one of the tire pressure sensors when fixing a flat, then refused to replace it. Dealer replaced it under warranty with no questions asked. One time the NAV system went crazy and had me driving in the wrong direction for about 50 miles. It corrected itself the next morning as I was going to the dealer. Been ok ever since. My battery ran down when I had it parked in the garage for over a week, without starting it and with a cell phone charger and radar detector plugged in and turned on. Dealer sent a service truck out (very quickly, I might add) and replaced the battery under warranty. So my question remains..... do I have a LEMON.... and should I contact Cadillac and make them give me a new car and reimburse me for all my trouble and worry about my new car? I know it is a complicated and pretty high tech car...but.... IT IS A NEW CADILLAC.... NOTHING SHOULD EVER GO WRONG WITH IT. Please ignore the above.... it was meant to be satire and rhetorical. ted tcb
Golfnut, I won't add to the opinions already expressed on your Cadillac's issues. You've had an unfortunate experience, but not to uncommon for a complex high performance luxury sedan. All of us here stand behind Scotty because he's about the most helpful guy you can come across on any enthusiast's auto forum. I spend a lot of time lurking on Nissan and Acura forums ... I've owned a few Nissans, and many Honda products. My simple, older Accords, Preludes, Maximas, and 300ZX's ran great. My newer ones ... not so much. My last two Accords kept me constantly busy chasing down CEL issues. The lights were on more than they were off. My wife's Mazda Tribute had the same issues with sensors frequently lighting up her dash. With my previous 4 STS', I actually never had a CEL light appear ... maybe I was lucky, or maybe I simply didn't keep the cars long enough. There are sites littered with people complaining about early Acura transmission failures. The newer Maximas have lots of complaints about crankshaft position sensors, O2 sensors, mass airflow sensor problems, ECU issues, knock sensors going early ... these issues go right through model year 2004. The newer Nissan/Infinity's continue to have problems with excessive oil consumption. I don't think you'll ever get away from engine management problems as luxury cars begin to age. The one thing in your favour with the Infinity and Acura product is they have excellent resale value. Good luck with your next purchase ... I hope its a better experience for you. 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
dougbrainerd
WOW, I guess that I will never be invited to the caddyinfo members get together. HAHA. After reading many threads I can see that Scotty is a genuine helpful and knowledgeble person. My point is that this is a discussion forum, not one that is dedicated to enthusiasts and answer seekers. I guess that I got so defensive because the feedback I have gotten is telling me that I have no business venting the negative parts of my experience with this car since day one. If I am researching any topic I am interested in reading both the positive and negative input. I did not complain about having to pay for any repairs and I understand that autos will need repair as they age. I agree that my problems were aggrevated by a subpar dealer but who else but Cadillac could help me. What dealer would agree to warranty paint a car that another dealer has already botched twice. Maybe you understand my point and maybe you dont. Scotty (or anyone else) if I offended you or anyone else please accept my apology. Finally, LOF is probably the more correct acronymn. Golfnut out. BodybyFisher
While it appears I was not being sensitive, I offered to write GM on your behalf in my first post, but you continued dumping (aggravation, lemon and Audi) with less than 5 posts, and I am not a big fan of new members dumping. I don't know what the problem was with the paint job, maybe it made sense to raise to a higher level than your local dealer like the Regional manager. I don't think we need to accept shoddy work from the dealer and it sounds like it was shoddy. The dealer subs out that kind of work to local shops and they had a problem I am sorry for your bad dealer experience, that is not acceptible and a major cause of GMs problems. I still have not heard of LOF, except that LOF used to make auto glass for GM cars, but I change my own oil, filter and lube it myself. If you think we can help, let us know.
