LACLUV
Hi i was wondering if anyone has modified the seat track in there cadillac to get more travel out of it. I have a 2001 sedan deville. I want to do this cause i'm 6'5 and would kinda like a lil extra leg room if possible.
Ranger
I have never done it, but I would think it rather easy to remove the seats and move the tracks back a little.
Dadillac
Does the Deville have the seatbelt as part of the seat like in the Seville's? If so, be very careful what you modify. The drivers safety is at risk since the seats mounting points are the only thing anchoring the driver in place. In a crash, the entire seat may rip loose from the modified mounts, and you will be face first full of steering wheel or dashboard. Don "Modern warriors saddle iron horses of chrome." acklac7
Taking out the seat(s) is on my 95' is relatively easy: remove two rear anchor bolts (one on either side of the track) then push/lift the seat up/forward then pull up/back to remove (there are no bolts in the front, rather holes for the front track "prongs" to slip into). If your 2001 is anything like my 95' I would say there is absolutely no safe (straightforeward) way to move the seat/seat track back. As Dadillac was saying, the seatbelt locking mechanism is actually anchored to one of the (2) rear track bolts that thread into body. In order to move the seat back you would need to re-thread/tap an additonal set of holes to accommodate the rear anchor bolts (mind you the integrity of the threads are every bit as important as an airbag, if not more so). In addition you woud somehow need to cut new groves for the front prongs to slide into. Here's what happens when you screw up a seat installation, how this guy lived (walked) away from this crash is beyond me...From what i've read his seat broke lose and he lost control...Note that his seat gets tossed a good 20ft in the air. BTW how in the world do you embed youtube videos in your posts? A.J.
