audioguy99
I have been getting extremely unusual wear on the LR tire and it has some play when I grab it and pull - almost as if the lugs were loose but aren't. At first I thought it was the hub/bearings that needed replacement, but a mechanic this past weekend said it was the "spindle assembly with bushings" that connects to the hub. He said it has about 1 inch of play in it. I was originally quoted an $800 total, but another mechanic said he found the part in a junkyard and can do the job for $300 total. I looked in my factory manuals, but it doesn't list a "spindle assembly." Any ideas about what exactly this could be and whether those prices seem accurate? I saw a part listed on eBay for a 94 Seville going for $30. Any help or ideas on this or what I should do is greatly appreciated. Thanks!! The rear hub bearing is attached to it. Its a common failure and the part is about $350 new. It is rare to find a good knuckle assembly in the junk yard so be careful. You would be best buying the part new if you are keeping the car and having it intalled, its not hard to install. Make sure the rear trailing arm is good too. Mike The part cost me $50 to $75 in the scrap yard but I have a good relationship with my scrap yard. Because they are rare, they can get a high price for these parts. Mine was NOT 100% and has some play in it, so he did not charge me a heavy price. audioguy99
Thanks. That helps a lot. The part coming from the junkyard is supposed to be in very good condition. Hopefully I can get this taken care of soon. Thanks again...especially for the pics. Jonathan
