TCC code????

anyone had to deal with this code? i am stuck in 2nd gear and am getting a torque converter clutch code. Local tranny shops tell me i have to rebuild/replace the transmission. Just wondering what anyone else has had to do........... HELP!!!! 1996 sls seville

Would it by chance be the infamous P0741 code? That code will not keep you in second gear though. You can live with the P0741. Do a search for that. The second gear thing might just be a shift solenoid. Simple and relatively cheap fix. Tell us what code you are getting.

ive done my research, but for some reason when its supposed to shift in overdrive(41mph) it acts like it goes into OD, but wont pick up acceleration instantaniously, rpm drop like its in the right gear, but when i go try to accelerate the rpms shoot through the roof til it picks ups speed

P1406 EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit

B1348 Very Low A/C Refrigerant Pressure

You need to check the connectors and wiring under the hood, particularly under the throttle body and between the surge tank and the firewall. If you don't find bad connectors, and if you clear these codes and they come back, you might clean out your EGR and check your Freon.

i agree, but i am not getting any other codes....i have had this problem for about a month now, nothing else is popping up, either when i check the codes or when the tranny shop has checked the codes......who knows, if you guys have any other ideas, please feel free to drop me a line...........

Check the wiring and connectors. Your driveability problems could be electrical and that is the place to start.

The transmission also shifts to 4th, which is overdrive, at 39 mph or higher. The torque converter is still in play until you cruise at 41 mph or higher.

it just doesnt want to budge into another gear at all. im running 3500rpms at 45 mph......and then it will drop rpms like it shifts if i let of the pedal, then it wont pick up again til 3500..........HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tranny shops are telling me 2500$ .....HECK, i stole the car at an auction, dont want to put that much back into it....

Maybe that is why you "stole" it. Sorry I have nothing constructive to add anymore. This does not sound like a TCC problem to me. Maybe you should look for a junkyard trans for a couple hundred bucks. Much cheaper than $2500 and the 4T80E is generally pretty reliable. I'd feel much better about a junkyard trans than I would an engine.

Sounds like it's not coming out of second gear. Get the codes. It may just have a connector problem or need solenoids.

I have a 95 sls that was given to me because it would not shift from 2nd. It was given to me because the owner was told he needed a new tranny and wasn't going to spend the money. Anyway, I had my shop check and replace the shift solenoid. I have now put 30K more miles on it. I also told my friend to fire his mechanic.
