charlesdeville
Hello to all. I just purchased my first ever Cadillac. I have a 1998 DeVille sedan. It has a 12 disc cd unit mounted in the trunk. I've read the manual and it says all I have to do is open the door to the unit and the magazine will automatically eject. No such luck. There is a small light bar that comes on so I know it has power. Anybody know how to remove the magazine from the unit? Also, there is a power amp mounted in the fender near the cd unit. Is the amp for the sound system or something else? Any info is appreciated. All the other goodies seem to work except for the drivers heated seat. The car only has 87XXX miles on it and is a pleasure to drive. I've had it a whole 4 days now. Thanks again for any help you can give me.
Cadillac Jim
There is likely a code thrown here. Pull the OBD II codes before you start and write them down in case you come back here. Here's how to get the codes: http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html The changer caddy is probably jammed in the changer, likely due to the CD's not being put in properly. Gently work it around and see if you can get it to eject. If you can hear a motor working to keep it jammed, pull the wiring harness plug on the rear of the unit (toward the bumper) to kill the motor. winterset
I have a '96 kinda similiar. Is the module in the fender connected via a db25 computer cable (looks like a old style computer printer cable). if so, it could be the onstar module? If it's a premium factory sound system, the amp is located behind the back seat with many of the cars electrical modules. The trigger for ejecting/ inserting the CD's is sliding the magazine door. you should feel some resistance the first 1/2 inch you slide the door open. when you open or close, you should hear some mechanism inside beginning to work. BTW if you have an ipod (except touch for now and the nano), you can purchase a module in best buy for $99 that'll let you control your IPOD through your factory radio instead of a CD player. Dadillac
I am pretty sure that once the door is slid open, you need to press the cartridge inward, and then it will pop out. charlesdeville
Hey guys, got my CD changer fixed today. I took it out of the car and disassembled the housing. I found a lever arm for the mechanism had popped out of its track and jammed the cartridge. I popped the arm back in place, reassembled the unit, returned it to the car and it works like new. God I love cheap fixes. Merry Christmas to all!!!!!
