lpk34
I bought my 97 deville used with 65,000 miles on it. Sometimes when i dont drive it for 24 hours and i go to start it up.....it takes about 5-10 seconds of turning the key before it starts....once started though, i wont have any other problems until i let it sit for a day again. any ideas of what is causing this. Turn the key to ON and listen for the fuel pump. If you do not hear the fuel pump run, the problem could be the fuel pump relay. There is an auxiliary feed from the oil pressure sensor to the fuel pump that will supply power to the pump when oil pressure is attained. That might explain the long cranking. What should i be listening for when you say "hear the fuel pump run". I am a little clueless when it comes to engine problems. I have wanted to own a cadillac my entire life and now that i finally bought one i want to make sure i have it for a VERY long while.
Ranger
Open the fuel filler cap and put your ear to the open pipe. Have an assistant turn the key on, but do not crank. You should hear the pump run for 2-3 seconds. If not, then the relay is bad.

Ranger
once started though, i wont have any other problems until i let it sit for a day again. The fuel pump is not your problem, as evidenced by the above quote. If you do not hear the pump run at key on as described in post #4, then the relay is your problem. It should not cost more than a few dollars and is as easy to replace as a fuse.
winterset
Can it be the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). maybe takes time for the fuel to seep into the vaccum.

Not likely to the best of my knowledge. My understanding is that the fuel pump will build pressure very rapidly.
