FUEL INJECTOR REFURBISHING

Recommended Posts

this is on a 1995 seville sts with 160,000 on it. started running rough at low idle, no codes set. So I cleaned air filter, and egr valve, check for spark on each cylinder and have concluded without testing fuel rail that one or several injectors may be bad. Has anyone had any experience with refurbinshing the injectors. You send or take them to a place and they clean and renew them for a fraction of replacing.

What are you basing this on? Have the plugs & wires been changed recently? Have you checked the FPR for leaks?

Clean Throttle body and check the FPR. Mist the wires with a spray bottle after dark and see if sparks fly. Injector cleaning may help, I am not a big fan of it, but I would check the other things first.

Plugs were changed 5,000 miles ago and wires were changed at 100,000 which is about 60,000 ago.

I was able to diagnos a bad injector on my 4.5 Allante, a ODBI car as well, by selecting ECM overide ES04 "injector". From there, depressing the warmer buttom allows you to select each incremental cylinder. Then depressing the cooler button disables that cylinder that was selected for 5 milli-seconds. By monitoring the amount of RPM drop, from 1500 RPM, you are able to detect which cylinder has the weak injector. I found one bad one. I replaced it with a rebuilt unit from Rockauto.com for $33 minus a $10 core charge. Fantactic results. It now idles smoother that it ever has.

The 4.5's are notorious for weak injectors. I am not sure that you can select ECM overide on a 95 NS from the DIC, but you probably can with a scanner.

For the Allante you press off and warmer. a segment check os permormed. From ECM? press hi. then ECM DATA? comes up. Then press LO 3 times until ECM OVERRIDES? is displayed. Hit HI 5 times until ES04 is displayed. as mentioned above cooler selects the cylinder and warmer shuts it off.

Good Luck

forgot to mention Fuel regulator was also changed around 120,000

Was it a GM FPR? I used a FPR from Advance and it lasted 1 year. NAPA FPR just would not fit. Check the wires and the throttle body. The Power Balance Check will help isolate the bad cylinder, but you might have to perform it several times to get consistant results.
