BUICK11
I will try and share my recent experience with my Cadillac dealer (who is the best) We have a 1999 SLS with 54k on it. The lower half of the motor was sealed back in 2003 when it was under the bumper to bumper warranty. Just came drom the dealer and they resealed the motor with a new procedure. Looks like a Silver color RTV sealer coming out from the pan area. Technican showed me the old orange color gasket that they no longer use. He claims this should last much longer (hopefully forever) This was all covered under GMPP costs me $50.00. Going to extend GMPP another 2 years or 20K. Just wanted to share this with some of those interested. This is the one that the Buick Technican thought was leaking oil thru the oil pan a few weeks ago because of a porusity problem. BodybyFisher
Was this just to seal the pan? Did they remove the engine to get to the pan? I don't think its easily removed. BUICK11
I think they removed the transmission. The tech was just finishing up when I walked in the shop. Said something about 13 hours labor. They had car since Monday. Will advise more if you are interested once I get workorder. Christmas gift time for the service writer. BUICK11
I thought the service writer said they new a trick where they just remove the transmission????? Could it be they charge to remove the entire system and remove just the transmission???? oops I just crawled under the car to wipe things down and check to see if all my retainers were back for the shields and i noticed NEW COTTER pins in the lower ball joints. Is that a clue they had to drop everything? ok with me...jusy hope it is fixed. Frank

It is almost impossible to get the block so clean that the sealer would stick while in the car. Take a look at this. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadil...tv-sealant.html 12.58 second Northstar with a GM/Cadillac PCM Cadillac Technician @ Crest Cadillac Brookfield WI Hometown Washougal WA
BUICK11
Would new cotter pins in the lower ball joints be a indication they removed the entire drivetrain and fixed it properly ? Also coolant replacement on second workorder would lead me to believe powertrain was dropped and hopefully done correctly. Wife likes car thus we will keep until no more gmpp can be purchased.
