This is the second time in 2 days that this message has appeared .Car has always started back up..I am new to this electronic stuff ... THe car has a habit of the engine service lite coming on .. I just bought a code scanner to try and figure all this out ... Thank in advance ... Doyle

Doyle,

In addition to what Ranger noted regarding codes, this may be simply due to using a key without the "resistor-pellet" embedded within the key itslef, or the pellet/reader is a bit dirty.

Can you recall any changes relating to the above recently?

Good Luck,

Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.

When my battery cable was getting bad, I got the mesage "Theft System Problem, Car May Not Restart" message. In fact, that one, the second time, was the last straw before I changed it. There was one other thing -- I was looking for a (non--dealer) mechanic, and one shop replaced the battery, failed to clean the positive cable that was thickly encrusted with green and white sand, and they were making noises about selling me a new starter. I changed battery cables and mechanics.

Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.

You don't need the scanner - the capability is built in on Cadillacs.

To get any codes you just hold the OFF and PASS button for three seconds on the temp control buttons. It will start going through the codes both current and historical. Have a pen ready to right them down.
