JasonA
Back in May, the dealer replaced my oil pressure switch because of a persistent P1189 code. After the repair, the code was gone, I swear it was. The switch wires were physically broken, so even if you cleared the code, it would immediately reset the next time the engine was started. But last time I changed my oil, the wires looked severed, again. And the code is back. The part was replaced (maybe?) under GM certified warranty. The car is now out of warranty. I think typically there is no post-warranty coverage on parts replaced under warranty, right? In other words, I'm on my own for this part now? There are no accessable "wires" on the switch other than the connector blades. Now if the switch blades are breaking, this could be caused by not enough slack in the chassis wire harness to allow for engine movement and the harness tension is work-hardening the (somewhat fragile) switch connectors. But you would hope that a competent sober technician would realize the condition and reposition the chassis harness to provide some slack. And check your copy of the work order for the warranty repair; some repairs are further warrantied by the service department for 12 months. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! Ranger
Yeah, I think most repairs are 12/12 if not still under warranty. Never know, they may "good will" it and cover it anyway. They do have options.
thu
That depends on how long ago the repair took place. You mentioned May. Many dealers will warranty parts and labor for 12 months/12,000 miles. Others have a shorter warranty period. So, even though the warranty on the car is over, any repairs done may still be under the dealer's warranty. Check your the repair paperwork you should have received back in May and see if it mentions the repair warranty. If it doesn't, give them a ring. 2003 Seville STS 43k miles with the Bose Sound, Navigation System, HID Headlamps, and MagneRide 1993 DeVille. Looks great inside and out! 298k miles! JasonA
Nothing is mentioned about parts warranty, other than all parts are warranted by the manufacturer. And as I recall, the actual harness wires were broken. It doesn't appear that these were repaired. I need to look again.
