SIXXDOGG
Hi everyone. I did some WOT's on my 98 sts.....and decided not to add any oil and wait to see if this light comes on.....I was keeping my eye on the stick.....and as soon as it dropped off the add line......the light came on.....(10 min ago went for a smoke....sat in my car and started it.....first time I saw this lite.) I added 1 liter of mobil 1 ex performance 10w30 and I was wondering if this is a safe way to do it.....since I was consuming more oil keeping it topped up. Wait for the light and add a liter? Or keep her topped. Thanx Nick

Or keep her topped. Thanx Nick I've been doing it this way for 10 years. I'm not sure about the oil capacity on the '98, but my '94 takes 7.5 liters to reach the full mark. At change time I only add 7 liters. My light comes on before the oil level is at the bottom of the stick. Being down a liter or so won't hurt anything as there is plenty of oil in the system. Using this method, I usually don't have to add any oil between changes. When the "low oil" message is displayed I'm usually close to change time. About 6-7K When I first got the '94 I kept the level at full and was using a liter of oil in 2,500Km. JimD
You can reduce your oil consumption with daily or weekly wide-open-throttle (WOT) therapy. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
Ranger
If you were keeping it topped off to the "Max" line, that is over full and will promote oil consumption. Add 1 qt when it get to the add line or when the CHECK OIL LEVEL message appears.
WarrenJ
Use a name brand, good quality oil. Change it when the DIC tells you to. Add a quart when the DIC says you are low. DONE! Regards, Warren EDIT: If you need to put the car on a skid pad, you'll need the full 7.5 quart load. A five quart load is fine for daily driving. Just don't go below that. Texas Jim
You can reduce your oil consumption with daily or weekly wide-open-throttle (WOT) therapy. Maybe that is why mine barely uses ANY oil.
