Manny
Hey everybody. Need just a wee bit of help. My problem is more annoyance than anything. The light in the trunk of my 2001 ETC no longer comes on. I've looked at the usual suspects. Bulb is good (I even bought a new one) Checked the fuses. still no light. I am assuming there is some kind of sensor attached to the trunk lid so that the light comes on when its opened. Not sure if it is a mercury switch due to the ban on mercury in the past several years. I am embarrassed to ask this question, since I've been a mechanic for the last 20 years, and I know, sure as the sun is shining, that I am supposed to buy the factory service manual. It ranks right up there with having a valid driver's license. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll just call it my trunk light switch. Where is it? Halp, halp... (in the voice of Polly Purebred) - lol Ed. Resistance is futile.
weephee
I looked up the schematic for the trunk light and it is a follows. Power is supplied from the fuse block under the hood with an orange wire going from the instrument lamp fuse to the trunk light. From the trunk light the black ground wire goes to the rear compartment lid release switch (not theswitch on the intrument panel but the switch at the trunk release mechanism) and from the switch to ground which is G402. G402 is in the left rear of the rear compartment near the tail light assembly. From what I can see, I would check that ground location and then check the lamp socket or contacts and if that doesn't do it, then check the trunk release switch. Also that trunk release switch obviously opens the trunk so I'd also look at the wires going into the trunk release motor.
Manny
Yo, Thanks weephee. The left rear? That's where I keep the fire extinguisher, and the 8oz Tee-ball bat, and the small storage crate of essentials. I'll bet I've somehow, between loading the trunk and moving the crate during use, broken the ground. I'll check that out when the ice storm lets up. Gracias. Resistance is futile.
