CADDY HAS A GHOST!!

I have a 2000 Cadillac DTS. Tonight I was driving home when all of a sudden my wipers came on! I could not turn them off or change the speed. The whole time the wiper fluid was coming out. Then they got weak and would hardly move. The only way I could get them to cut off was to pull the fuse. I am an aircraft electrcian so immediately I am thinking there is a short somewhere or a faulty component. Just wanted to see what you guys think and if you could lead me in the right direction. Oh and also there were no codes!

There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises

Don't forget to let us know your solution. That's an important part of the learning experience here.

Good luck,

Warren

Well I finally got a chance to take a look at it. As soon as I put the fuse in the wipers worked as advertised! So I really do have a GHOST! It was hard broke 4 days ago now no problems! So I inspted the harness and found nothing. No shorts were found either and I had correct voltage. My guess is the contact in the switch was stuck. I wont replace anything until its a hard break. Who knows when that will happen. Hopefully later than sooner!

Murphy rules. You will experience your 'hard break' during the first dark and stormy night when you are 25 miles from your toolbox! :D

I would hit the chassis connector at the wiper motor with contact cleaner and inspect for distorted pins.

The control switch is a 3 wafer with one wafer being a resistive voltage divider, one wafer dedicated to the High Speed selection, and another wafer that only signals the DIM to turn on the dash message.

IF it happens again, I would zero-in on the control switch.
