jgurley2
Today I set the parking brake on my '01 Seville SLS for the first time. I have had the car for 4 weeks. The manual says it should automatically release when car is placed in gear but I needed to back up so I put it in reverse. Is that why it did not release? I like to never found the little yellow level under the instrument panel BEHIND the parking brake but finally I did and it manually released. Has anyone else had that problem? Ranger
It should release when you take it out of park, regardless of which gear you put it in. See if you have any DTC's stored.
JimD
You could try this. Under the rear seat cushion is a fuse/relay box. There is a 20A fuse labeled PRK BRK. If the fuse is open, you have found the problem (test it with an Ohmeter; fuses can look good when they are not good). If the fuse is OK, do a few cycles of remove-replace to clean up the contact surfaces. There are two relays in the circuit (there are two coils in the solenoid). The critical relay is labeled PARK BRAKE RELAY A. Do a few remove-replace cycles with this relay. And you could do the same with the other relay that is labeled PARK BRAKE RELAY B.
