Remote start???

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sick of going out to a cold car. I used to be able to have my car in a nice warm garage but since I moved.... No More!

Does anyone know about a factory remote start for a 99 STS? I know they make aftermarket but I don't want to have 2 key fobs on one key chain. I know I'm asking for much but I figure it is not that much of a "must have" right now...

Does anyone here have an Aftermarket one on their car? What do you think of it, other than it's nice to have a warm car...

Thanks in Advance, Mike D

Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it!

93 STS 225,000 Miles

99 STS 111,000 Miles

Mike I don't think the 99 had the start feature. I had one put on my mothers Buick for Christmas and it was nice but it only started the car. If you check around you should find a remote starter that replaces the Factory key fob but they aren't cheap. (alarm, panic, trunk, gas door, locks and starter)

Good Luck, it's getting a little chilly in Va too

I had a "Prestige" Model installed on both of my caddy's. It has a nice features that tells you that the car is started. It also has a few toys that I enjoy, one button opens and closes the moon roof ( you could also do this with your windows) and another lets me know the temp inside the car. Fun little gagets, be careful of the discounted models as the distance that you have to be near the car to start sometimes is not to good. Of course it locks on unlocks doors and opens the trunk.

A remote start came on my 08 CTS; but I don't use it even though it is plenty cold enough in Michigan.

If there are world-wide gasoline shortages leading to higher and higher fuel prices, I hate to think of everybody in the country idling their cars for ten minutes every time they get in them. I wonder how many gallons that would use. I've been riding in cold cars for 79 years now and I guess I can stick it out for a few more.

Not sure about retro fitting a gm sys My 07 has the remote start & I use it & It's smart too if it's cold enough it turns on the heated seats & defrosters it will run for 10 minutes then shut down & you can restart I like the remote feature I usually only have to wait about 5 minutes & all is well

Mike I had a remote start installed by best buy and it was the long range one I could get a start from about 700 feet away which would start the cooling from a hot day in the sun or a cold days winter chill relieved quicker. The guys were persistant and I was patient an install that I was told would take only about 4 hrs took 3 to 4 times that long but they also hooked up the door locks and trunk pop. I have had it for about 5 years on my 96 deville and my wife even says did you start the car and she is not asking for any reason but her own comfort. Cadman1940

No one has answered the original question.

Do they make a factory GM remote start that can be retrofitted to, say a 2003 SLS?

Thanks,

Britt

I think the original question was answered rather well, it just wasn't the short answer. Factory remote starts were only just recently offered, and they are all very highly integrated into the electronics of the car. This means that they do MUCH more than just start the car. In my case, the car is started, the heater comes on if its cold outside, the heated seats come on as well, oh, and the rear window defroster along with the outside mirror deice. I think the heated steering wheel comes on too, but I won't swear to it. All of this without any intervention from the driver prior to parking the car the day before.

Short answer, NO.

Slightly longer answer, aftermarket is the best alternative for cars not originally equipped with remote start, but don't expect them to do all this stuff.

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
