SIXXDOGG
I was blown away when I found a HID Kit at a place here in Niagara Falls called Automotive Warehouse for 300$.....when I saw the example in the store I was SOLD.... It costed me 250$ to have it installed at my local mech that I have been going to since I was 19.....I didnt realize how much work was involved in it......but 2500$ cheaper then the dealer wanted. Why is it so expensive to put the GM HID in? I compared the lights to my dads BMW745 and they look exactly the same....same brightness....colour...etc... Have any of you installed a HID system on ur cadys? Nick
MIke D
Mostly because it is illegal to install aftermarket HID's on a car. Some states will even flunk your inspection if it was not an option that was originally purchased on your car. I.E.It was an option in 2001 on an sts. If you got non HID from the factory but installed GM factory HID's after the fact it will not be listed on your equipment code "sticker" They might reject the car for it. It is STUPID, but that's just the way it goes. There is also some debate if the original wiring up to the ignitor pack can handle the extra juice... Good luck with it and let us know how is goes.. MD Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it! 93 STS 225,000 Miles 99 STS 111,000 Miles
JasonA
HID systems actually run at less wattage compared with halogen bulbs...typically 35W vs. 55W. I don't really care for them -- most use an artificial blue color that makes things worse, not better. In my opinion, the best solution is to install a quality halogen bulb if that's the kind of lighting system with which you're working. It's also the legal solution.
