BodybyFisher
Hi Has anybody here bought the combined unit, spring and strut together? If so, please supply some feedback. Regards Runar Do they sell it that way? I bought the spring, strut mount, and strut separately and had an alignment shop assemble it for $20 each, one side I did my self and took a big chance, its not worth the trouble and risk, without the right equipment. Bruce Nunnally
Springs don't strike me as a wear item; wouldn't the average "life" of a car spring be huge? Or do the springs start to relax after xxx,xxx miles? I suppose it would depend on driver habits & usage somewhat -- whether you tend to jump railroad tracks or creep over them. I have considered changing the springs in order to go to a different spring setting, say to the sport suspension springs, or to the CTS-V springs. But otherwise I would expect that the stock spring are good for the life of the car. Does anyone's experience suggest otherwise? Hi Mike Yes, they sell a combined unit for about 515.00, including strutmounts.Yes, I agree with other posters, that the springs might be OK.This way, I can do the job myself, I just need a 25.00 dollar strut alignment level.I like, that new strutmounts are included, read a few posts about guys complaining about bad mounts. On another note Mike, I followed yours and Stefans instructions on the seat repair. Thanks very much. BodybyFisher
You are welcome. I am of the opinion that if your struts are ineffective (no dampening in either direction) that the springs take a beating. My car bottomed out badly when I got it and when it was loaded with luggage and bodies it was unacceptibly low to the ground. Since I replaced my springs I can load it up fully. I took my son and his two friends and myself with their luggage and it was no problem at all, Mike Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
