Programming Driver's Name Set/ Recall

Bobby Seville

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have the 2003 Seville SLS that I bought in June 07. Looking through the book on page 3-70 it says in bold

DRIVERS NAME SET/ RECALL

If your vehicle has the optional memory package, you will have this feature. This feature allows individual driver's names to be displayed in the DIC when the ignition is turned on. This feature only works when the remote keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the vehicle or when buttons 1 or 2 on the driver's door are pressed. See your dealer for assistance in programming this feature.

I really don't want to see the dealer and was hoping someone on here would know how to program this and save me the trip.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot and Happy Thanksgiving to all. :D

Bob

I don't believe that my 1997 ETC has that feature.

You need the Tech 2 to do it. So you need your dealer or someone who has a Tech 2.

You can have up to 17 letters and spaces.

Mine displays '2001 Cadillac DTS' on start up.

"Thank you for not smoking in my Cadillac" is too many letters. "NO SMOKING BOZO!!" is 17 characters.

Logan,

Do you know if the 2006 DTS can be programmed to do that?

Uuuuuu. Good question. I dont know. I would lean toward 'yes.'

I have spent very little time looking at GM online 2006 information.

I know I once had it display 'Logan Diagnostics' on start up. It pissed off my brother once when he went to move my car. He has a big Michigan degree and I went into automotive diagnostics. He was like...'how the F... did you do that?'

I make pretty close to what he does..

While a Tech II costs about $3500.00...

Some dealers will charge about $50 to change this display...

Many don't know how...

If you ask nicely during an oil change or something like that, many will do it for free.

The procedure is as follows

To enter programming with the Tech 2 , perform the following actions:

Install the scan tool.

Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.

Select the correct vehicle and model year.

Select Body.

Select Personalization.

Driver ID:

Continue with the following steps in order to enter a new driver ID:

Select Driver Information Center.

Select Driver #1 or Driver #2.

Select Driver #1 Name or Driver #2 Name, depending on your previous choice.

The Tech 2 tool displays directions for entering the Driver's Name. Read and press Enter.

The Tech 2 tool now displays 17 symbol numbers, with each number (32 through 255) corresponding to a symbol on the ASCII Character Table. Use the Left or Right arrows to scroll to the desired placeholder.

Use the Clear Entry special function button on the Tech 2 tool to clear the current symbol number for that placeholder.

Use the numerical keypad to enter the new symbol number. Press Enter.

When all 17 symbol numbers are as customer desired, press the Save Name special function button on the Tech 2 tool to store the new Driver's Name in the Instrument Panel Cluster's memory

And that should do it

Print this off and take it and the new names you want for Driver 1 and Driver 2 to your dealer...

The CTS and the new STS can both have names programmed into the DIC using the vehicle controls without the use of the Tech II. As far as I know, the DTS cannot be programmed either by the DIC controls or the Tech II. I don't think it has the capability. Also, the memory system cannot be programmed for 2 individual drivers as far as the programmable options thru the DIC. It is set for the car only.

Quick Question..........

Will this also change the "Driver One" and "Driver Two" that appears on the Navigation Screen?

Thanks

Driver 1 and Driver 2 refer to the fob that was last used to unlock the car. All the settings are different for Driver 1 and Driver 2. This lets your wife have her own seat settings and radio buttons.

I don't know if you can replace the "Driver 1" with "Joe Bag-O-Donuts" and such.

The DTS does have the "Driver 1" & "Driver 2" programmable option. At least my 2004 does. As for other years I am not sure, but I believe the other years of DTS also have this feature.
