cyrez00
Hey guys, Need your input on this one. I'm thinking of trying to get some more sound from my exhaust, currently i am a bit missing the V8 'roar' which my car produces. Am not after a really loud sound, only just a little more then it's producing at this moment. What would be the best/easiest/cheapest way to get this done without getting into a fight with the PCM and all that jazz? Thanks! Marc. MAC
I would think the least expensive and easiest thing would be to install performance mufflers. If you go to YouTube and search for "cadillac mufflers" or "performance mufflers" you will find some examples to listen to. Here's an example of a . And one of a . Here is a and . stsjoe
Changing your mufflers will do it (I've got Magnaflows) gives the car a nice rumble and swapping them won't effect your PCM. A good muffler shop should be able to steer you in the right direction and I'm sure others will chime in with what they have. Joe
cyrez00
Aha... i just found out there is a whole seperate world of this stuff... never knew that. Cadillac Jim
I've got Borla ProXS series, which are straight-through. They are noiser than the turbo mufflers that Borla lists for the Northstars but they give a throaty deep tone at idle. See my blog for a WAV file -- you will need to copy it to a CD-ROM and play it on your Bose system or a good living room stereo to hear the bass, but you can hear the snap when the engine is revved on computer speakers. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. JasonA
I just thought i needed to drill some holes in my end mufflers or something I was going to suggest that, as it IS the cheapest way to accomplish what you want. It does, however, have two drawbacks that I can think of. First, it MAY allow exhaust gasses into your cabin, because the exhaust is no longer routed safely behind the car. If you sit in traffic a lot, an exhaust system that doesn't fully exit the rear or side of the car can allow exhaust gasses to well up underneath and possibly seep in, if you have any "body leaks". Secondly, it would probably compromise the corrosion protection coating that may be applied on your current mufflers. If you drill holes in them, you may find that rust can/will start to develop at those points. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
