nickh
Ok got an 87 coupe deville with the 4.1 v8. Blown head gasket. What all are my options? here is what i am thinking. 1. pull the motor and replace the gasket. 2. get a different 4.1 3. swap to a different type of engine. If 3 is the best which engine should i go with? It woould need to be as little parts needed as possible. Like just swaping the computer.
Ranger
I don't think you have to pull the motor to do the job. I replaced head gaskets on my '83 Eldo and did it in the car. Another 4.1 is likely to have the same problem (they all did). Don't know what to tell you about #3. While anything is preferable to a 4.1, I don't know what will swap. Remember, you have a PCM and sensors to be compatible too.

I ALSO THINK YOU DONT HAVE 2 PULL THE MOTOR Wiz DRIVE IT LIKE YOU own it!!!!!! 1967 chevy II ( FOR SALE!!!!) 1995 Lexus Es 300 1998 SLS

Ranger
The 83 Eldo was a FWD also, but the engine was north/south mounted. Not sure about the 87 Deville though. That could present a problem.
KHE
Have you confirmed that the head gaskets are blown? Intake manifold gaskets are more common on HT-4100 engines vs. head gasket failures. Patrick7997
Yeah, the engine is the long way in that car, it won't be like a Northstar.... The other problem is, once you fix the HG, and get the compression back up, then the HT 4100 likes to take out the bottom end... I personally would find a decent remanufactured source, with a decent warranty, and go that route.... There used to be several. Good luck.

No - the HT-4100 engine in an '87 Coupe DeVille is a transverse engine.
