rdmsyr
Is the rear camber independently adjustable on the 97 STS? What I mean is the right side adjustable separate from the left side or is there one adjustment that does both sides at once? I've searched the forums and haven't had any luck on finding if this is possible and how to go about making changes. Both sides of the car have quite a bit of negative camber and the right side needs a little more than the left and would like to adjust them. Ranger
Yes, they are adjustable and are separate. You should probably have a 4 wheel alignment done to get it right.
rdmsyr
Thanks Ranger, But I am of limited means and would like to try it myself, it doesn't have to be perfect, but can be better than it is. When I put the protractor on the hub I'm out around 4 degree negative on one side and 3 degree negative on the other. The toe is good and ride height is where it should be - is there a posting or a procedure to follow?
Ranger
Strangely enough, when I look through the '03 Deville and the '02 Seville manuals, I see no procedure for adjusting the rear camber. Don't know what to say. I thought sure there was.
BodybyFisher
I once asked my alignment guy if I could get a little more negative camber to help the handling and he thought that the negatives out weighted the positives. My guess is that it IS adjustable. Find a good alignment shop and go and ask questions. I in the meantime will see what I can dig up. Ranger
There must be a tie rod or something to adjust.
BodybyFisher
You know I had both my lower control arms off when I replaced my coil springs, I think that there is an in and out adjustment on the lower control arm and the rod for toe Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Ranger
Yeah, both of my manuals list a rear toe adjustment, but nothing for camber.
rdmsyr
Thanks Body by Fisher and Ranger for checking and comments. I'll poke around and see if the lower control arm does have some form of adjustment. I find it interesting that with a car as sophisticated and well thought out that there wouldn't be a more intuitive way to adjust camber. We'll check it out. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving !!!! The lower control arm is adjustable. I recall when I loosened the bolt it jumped under the spring pressure, and I said to myself I now need an alignment. The tech pryed the lower control arm in an out it set the camber. JasonA
Rear camber is adjustable, but I would suggest to check the operation of your rear air shocks first. If they are sagging, you'll see a lot of negative camber as the car sits on the ground. As BodyByFisher said above, the rear camber is adjusted by physically moving the lower control arm inside its inner mount points. But I would check your rear ride height first, and please report back. The trim height at the wheel wells (ground to very top of the wheel well) on a '97 STS is 28.27", front and rear.
