93shocarguy
My 95 SLS has GREAT AC. I don't remember ever having a car that the AC was as cold as this one, but it's winter here in Kansas and I'd like some HEAT. The blower blows as it should, the coolant of the car is where it should be. The blower comes on after the car has been running for a while and should be blowing warm air, but there's nothing warm about it. Any ideas on where to begin? I've currently got the car for sale and don't want to spend a lot of money on the repair.
stsjoe
Check the coolant line going in the heater core and coming, if ones hot and the other is cold/cool, plugged heater core, if both are hot air mix door is not working. Is air coming out the floor vents?
BodybyFisher
Check for computer codes, as Joe mentioned you might have an actuator problem. IF the actuator breaks in the AC position you won't get heat see this thread for some background http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?sho...967&hl=1340 Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
93shocarguy
Did a little more checking and found out the heater core has been bypassed. Should I try to hook it back up and see what happens, or should I assume that since it's bypassed it's bad and needs replaced? (I can't think of a reason someone would bypass it unless it was leaking/bad) Does anyone have any pictures/diagrams on how to replace the heater core if I do it myself? Or does anyone have any idea cost wise what I can expect to pay someone for labor to have it replaced if I purchase an aftermarket core?
cyrez00
No doubt someone have disabled it for whatever reason in the past but the only way to find out why is to return it to it's original state. Personally i would take out the bypass (however it's done) and return it back to it's original setup to see what happens. If it is causing problems you can always put the bypass back in. Good luck Marc. If you are in complete control..... you are not going fast enough....
stsjoe
93, I would guess its bad, labor is in the 200 to 300 hundred range but a guy I work with has a 95 Eldo and did his in the parking lot, took about 2 hours and comes out thru the glove box, pretty easy really. Ranger
There is but one reason to bypass a heater core. I think it is a pretty safe bet that it is a leaker.
catmendo
There is but one reason to bypass a heater core. I think it is a pretty safe bet that it is a leaker. i put a heater core in my 96 deville concours and it took me a couple of hours ... if you try it yourself after you take the plastic cover off the heater core itself don't pull the cover down through the dash and set it on the carpet like i did ... i spent 3/4s of the time that i worked on it trying to thread the durn thing back through the dash ... i should have just moved the cover sideways(to the right) and then removed the two bolts (5.5mm) that bolt the core down ... then put the new core in and put ever thing back together. if i had to do it again, i would do it in a heartbeat and i bet that i could do it all in under 30 minutes... cost me $45.00 for a core and by doing it myself saved hundreds ... plus i know that it was done right ... p.s. note that i mentioned that the retainer bolts are 5.5 mm ... i didnt know that there was such a thing and i had a hard time digging through my tool boxes to find one ... only to find out that i had one in my trunk in one of those fancy screwdriver kit ...

beetlejuice
I did my 92 Deville in a couple of hours also, But I got a feeling the Seville aint gonna be near as easy as a Deville.
93shocarguy
I've heard people say they did an Eldo in 2 hrs or so. I assume it's the same as the Seville. I'm gonna give it a whirl and see what happens. Does anyone have any diagrams/pictures of this???
catmendo
I've heard people say they did an Eldo in 2 hrs or so. I assume it's the same as the Seville. I'm gonna give it a whirl and see what happens. Does anyone have any diagrams/pictures of this??? do like i did, go to auto zone and buy a haynes manual for $16.95 ... it has some very good pictures and good step by step ... it will pay for itself on the heater core fix alone ... i just checked my haynes manual and your SLS heater core fix is just like my deville's was ... except for the standing on my head part, i thought it was easy to fix and i think that after you are done, you will agree with me, that you wouldn't hesatate to do it again, and if you did, that you could do it alot faster the next time because the fear factor is gone ... i would buy an ac delco heater core from rockauto.com ... i did not think that the quality of the core, that i got from auto zone, was as good as the original one ... if you have an eletric screw driver or drill to use to take out all the screws in the glove box it will save you alot of elbow grease ... go for it and good luck ...
