Grebus
Looking at a '91 Brougham with under 50000 miles on it. Carfax record check shows 9 records, but I don't have a subscription right now. If someone can run the report, it would be greatly appreciated. The VIN is 1G6DW54E2MR716504. Thanks in advance... OynxSTS
Thanks for posting that... Just like every other Carfax report I have read... Completely useless. Take the vin to any Caddy dealer and for free they will give you a service report... That actually is useful and then take the car to a trusted body man, pay him $50 and find out if it has been in a crash... Carfax would like us to believe there is a magic pill for this... But you still need to do your own homework when you buy a used car... Grebus
Hey Mark, thanks very much, that is quite helpful. One of the things I was most concerned with is whether the mileage is actual, and looking at the report it appears to be. Thanks again.

OynxSTS
Maybe... Again, a dealer report would be better confirmation... The car in question went <4000 miles a year for its first six years (maybe a 1/4 mile at a time ) Of course, you have no idea what happend in those almost 6 years... If an Odo "rollback" happend, that would have been when it would have been done... Of course it is next to imposible to roll back the odo on these cars. It aint the 80's any more You just can't swap the head unit... I've never seen a Carfax report that answers more questions then it generates ... Why no emissions testing for the first almost 8 years??? Was the car locked in a barn? Was it registered in a state/province that doens't release data to Carfax? As well a dealer report would give you some details as to what actually happend in those first 6 years, inlcuding all of the warranty work for the first 4 years. coolnesss
I've never seen a Carfax report that answers more questions then it generates ... I am looking for a car, and check carfax every time - and, having now looked at more than fifty of them in the last couple of months, I agree - they always raise questions - and that is their most valuable role. OynxSTS
My problems with Carfax started with the one I got on the last car that I bought... Seemed like a good idea... slick ad's and all... So I bought the "unlimited" 30 day service... And I ran the three cars that I was considering... All came back clean... no issues, like the above report, no real information. This suprized me because one of the three had been in a MAJOR accident.. it had hit a moose and was nearly totaled... The dealer had shown me the repair documents... This started me wondering.... If Carfax missed that, what else is it missing? So I ran my wifes 4Runner. It was bought from an insurance company as a "rebuilt total loss"... Carfax was clean... No mention of the "status" issue. So then for fun I ran my 87 Olds... That car is emissions tested annually and is on its third odometer (one that I personally replaced)... For sure Carfax would catch this... NOPE... Clean title and no Odometer issues... PLEASE... Then I ran my 2001 Intrigue that I bought new from the dealer... Guess what that showed. I was the third owner! Yes the car had been transfered between two other dealers before I bought it... Nice they couldn't even get that right. Long story short, if this service brings you comfort, use it... But my experience has been that it is really as useful as 3000 mile oil changes.
