iwanta2000caddy
Hey folks, so I finally took the plunge and traded my explorer in for a 2000 Cadillac STS> I LOVE IT! Now for some trouble shooting, I searched the forums but did not come up with any answers. There is a buzzing noise coming from the left part of the front dash (if I had to guess i would guess that it is coming from somewhere in the front left pillar). The front passenger cannot hear it, but for the driver it is fairly loud and sounds electronic. maybe it is more like a humming noise... At first I thought maybe it could be something to do with the electronics in the speedo etc, but the buzzing noise is constant regardless of the dash lights being on or off It never goes away, it does not get louder, and it can be drowned out by turning up the radio lol. I suppose I can live with it, but I would like to find out what it is so that i can stop it! thoughts? thanks in advance. PS i will post up pics soon. Texas Jim
As BBF said..... try completly turning "OFF" the entire AC system. See if the noise goes away. I think there is a small fan that pulls in air so that the auto temp control knows the temp of the inside of the car. It may be the fan is hitting a piece of insulation or possibly going bad. ted tcb
Definitely the asperator fan for the auto temp. Its in behind the tiny square vent on the left side of the dash, by your headlight switch. Do a search under "asperator" fan, also over at "Cadillacforums" ... one of the members posted a step by step fix. The bearing goes bad on the tiny fan motor and leaves you with a very annoying buzz, especially on cold morning startups. I did the easy fix ... took off the grill, held the temp probe wire to the side with needle nose pliers, and stuffed some foam down the hole. For me, this fixed the vibration ... although the correct fix is to swap out the fan motor. Ranger
I'm with Ted. It will get louder as the temperature gets colder and will quiet down as the interior gets warmer. Pretty common problem, but a relatively easy fix.
